Mobile Phone Insurance Proof of purchase

I currently have mobile phone insurance with Natwest.

A colleague has recently bought a new phone but does not like it, so wishes to sell it myself. He has the original proof of purchase that he got for buying the phone, and is willing to write me out a 'receipt' on a piece of paper to say he sold me the item, I also plan to register the imei number with my network .

Does anyone have any experience on whether this would be acceptable proof of purchase if I needed to make a claim?

I have contacted various departments of Natwest who keep redirecting me to different departments so its difficult to get an answer.

I obviously do not want to register the phone and pay extra and then not be able to make a claim, so does anyone have any suggestions if needed to get insurance for this phone.

Thank you for your help in advance.

I think, the only way is to get a definite answer from Natwest and to get it in writing.

I can get his original proof of purchase .. but obviously that would have his name , he then willing to write that he has sold me the phone which is my proof of purchase from him ... I think this should be ok but I dont know what insurance companies / natwest would think of this. I cant be the first person to insure a phone not bought from a shop?
