breaking and selling a classic car bit by bit!
İ have a 1960s sportscar that i spent a fortune restoring --thousands of new parts and a completely restored body on the car. i spent about 15k in 1992 to 4.--the car has been stored ever since but it is worth a fraction of the money i spent as a 'seller' . i am wondering if it would be better to disemble it and sell it bit by bit on ebay?

Depends very much on what the car is, how much storage you've got available while waiting for things to sell (a car in bits takes a LOT more room than an intact one!) and how fast ou want rid of it.
Also, again depending on the car, how much you mind having the Owners Club hating you for breaking a possibly viable car. Ultimately it's your car, your business but you'd be surprised how angry some clubs can get - possibly even as far as no-one from the Club bidding on the bits

the speed of sale is not important--the car is stored in my own garage and can be taken apart bit by bit.-the car is a 1967 sunbeam alpine. i spent about 15 k restoring it and it is worth about 3 to 4 k now because it has just ben stood and deteriated---the speed of disposal is not important--i will sell on ebay and it is obvious how anti the club is with my mercinary attitude!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

You need to look at how much each individual part is worth remember that its now second hand. couple with how many man hours it will take you do so.
You'll never get what your invested in the car back. The only way to get your money back when restoring cars is to get something ultra rare and executive.
What I would do is sell it on, but I'm a sentimental fool and would rather take the hit in pocket and see someone else get the car back on the road.0 -
After selling a few major parts you dont want sales to dry up and be left with a worthless lump that nobody wants.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

spending 15k restoring it then simply lettng it deteriorate for 15 years does not sound like the actions of a mercenary person to me. Quite the opposite. I cannot see that you will get even 2k in parts - sell it complete, and move on.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
How much would it cost to get it though a MOT?0

If it has been restored 10 years ago and stored in a garage, what would it take to restore it again and how much would the value change?0 -
the car is running well according to the mechanic who took it out of the garage --i should think there is little to do for an MOT.---the paint work has gone 'off' in the interceeding years.---the quote for a complete respray came in at 4k which i am unwilling to spend -mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

It sounds like the car may well be perfectly serviceable, with a little TLC. The paintwork may need just a bit of T-cut and elbow grease.
If you want to try selling the car, then try advertising it on one of these sites:

You may also want to consider advertising in the following publications:

Also, try contacting the Alpine Owners club:
