New house and wheelie bin

We had 2 recycling bins, one for my house and one for the flat adjoining my house. A few years ago someone stole one of these bins and the council want £85 to deliver a new one! Hell will freeze over before I pay for a bin, especially when I receive the worst service known to man from the council!0

I wonder how many weeks that the council would need to get a new bin to the OP. Wouldn't surprise me if 3-4. And during that time, in a new house, the OP (if they live somewhere like me) wouldn't be able to have any rubbish collected as they have no bin and the council don't take bags.
And if they have no car (like me) they wouldn't be able to take their rubbish to the tip. So before commenting on things like that, maybe think a bit ?
I did think and have also now considered the horrors of waiting for one to be delivered.
But it's still just a bin. No big deal. If it was a big deal to them, OP should have asked for it.0 -
Just buy a bin. It's annoying, but i the scheme of things not worth the hassle.
I never appreciated how good our council's collection policies were until I moved away from the UK. Over here, I have to buy my bins, then pay for them to be collected. I can only get recycling collected every two weeks (and we have to pay for that too). There's no free tip either, the tip is about 25 miles away and you have to pay for everything you throw away there.0 -
We moved here about five years ago, when we viewed the property the bins were all there (it was an empty property, the person who owned it had died). When we moved in the blue bin had gone and the council replaced it free of charge, they did say it wouldn't be replaced again.0

When the wheels fell off one of our wheelies, the council took it away and delivered a replacement FOC.
Try telling them it has been stolen."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

It's not a lie. The previous owner stole it."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

If the Council originally supplied the bin to the property, & if the former occupants definitely took it , then I agree with Pimento - it has effectively been stolen by them.
OP - if you really can't afford one ( unusual housewarming pressie from family?) talk to your local Councillor and then get the local rag to take a picture of you looking forlorn with some bulging rubbish sacks. Many Councils are able to offer a discretionary replacement in your circumstances.
In the meantime, if the Council won't take bagged rubbish, and you have no transport for a trip to the dumpit site, what better way to get on speaking terms with your new neighbours - "please can we drop this in your bin if you have space" ........
Hope the previous house owners aren't relying on you to forward their mail.0 -
I would have phoned the council and said "I just moved into a house in this borough and it doesn't have a wheelie bin" - they probably would have given you one.
If not, there's a layby near us where there's always a bloke with a sign up saying "wheelie bins - £25". Not sure how many he sells since we don't have wheelie bins in our town. Point being, you should be able to get one for less than the council charge.0
