When I was a student about 10 years ago, my auntie gave me a really old black and white TV, which I licenced at the much cheaper black and white rate. However, when I applied for a refund for the unused quarter, they refunded me at a quarter of the colour licence (which was almost a complete refund of the black and white licence!) I can only assume the people processing them must hardly ever see a black and white licence....0

How many students actually buy a TV licence?? Suspect its a pretty low %age!!0

Does this refund apply to soldiers living in accommodation as well. When they go away on tour they are away for 3 - 6 months.0

Sorry, this isn't a reply, but I don't know how to do a new post!
I've been trying since January 2011 to get a refund on a colour TV licence purchased for my daughter at university - university have no facility for TV in student rooms. I've sent them copies of emails from the university accommodation office confirming this but still no refund. Please, what else can I do?0 -
If applying to the authority fails then is there some sort of ombudsman we can go to?0

More than you'd expect actually... they'll target students with home visits more frequently than they would anyone else.
There is a lot of student accommodation in my city and it's not unheard of for TVL to make fortnightly visits to the unlicensed students. It's not as if they'll be denied entry to the halls and if an unlicensed student is in with the TV switched on, with only 1 door between the TV and TVL sales man they'll easily hear it.We’ve had to remove your signature.
