I imagine trying to undercut a well established local company by a small margin isn't going to work well after all people will prefer to use an established company as they feel more confident of there credentials and dealing with them if something goes wrong.

How do you get/calculate the insurance necessary for an ironing business, some clothes can be very valuable/expensive and if lost or damaged, hard (or costly) to replace.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Those prices are far to high, in Durham I pay £10 pr black bin liner now, I used to pay £21 for 10 kilo and £10 per laundry basket (the rectangleular ones used to peg your clothes on the line) Shirts were all in thought in the ironing shop if your bag is all shirts they charged £1 pr shirt.

If you are ironing at home it must be a smoke free household, no one wants stinky ironing and none smokers can smell smoke a mile off.

I run a ironing service and given plenty of advice on the making money board. We charge £12.50 per 20 mixed items free collection and delivery. We don't iron bedding or large table cloths.

It's easier to charge per item, to be really honest with you setting up a ironing service in this climate isn't going to work we're quiet at the moment so re leafletting giving special offers etc.

We have had several ironing services set up in the last few years charging £10 per 20 items but we've been round 10 years and still get the majority of the business we get repeat business all the time.

If I was you thinking of setting up a new business do your research ring the local ironing service ask if they can fit you in how busy they are etc etc.

    10 , 15 , 20 minutes to Iron a shirt??

or if its me all day and i still wouldnt get it right. :o

Isnt that why they bought out non iron shirts?

If my man was in a job where he'd need a shirt ironed unfortunately he'd have to do it himself.

I gave the area for clarity but I also visit family in the SE and they wouldnt pay those prices either.

I also agree with Stephb, when things get tight you cut the chaf first and an ironing service is an want and not a need unless you are severely disabled like me. My service has cut costs this year to survive and they are the cheapest service Ive ever used anyway because Im prepared to deliver/collect my ironing myself to a pit village instead of using the service I used near the city center which was Crease Release at Framwelgate Moor (I dont even know if they are still solvent, when I took my last lot in they had nothing waiting for collection and had let the established staff go unfortunatly)
