  • Hi have just bough Audi can 2.0tdi 4days oil light on, I am gutted 68500 miles towed to garage. They phoned next day to say hex shaft replaced & turbo needs replacing, I have owned many audi's why did they change to 2.0 Tdi. From 1.9 the idiots, any way my car oil light came on had to continue to drive to safe place my girlfriend was driving, I was in work, when I got to car it started but only Rev to 2500 revs then oil light came on no smoke & engine sounded on the sump is done now hv to find a turbo engine is ok thank god & people I bought of are willing to pay half cost of repair. I hope the repair will last 2 years then I will replace oil pump safe bet I think. Car had full Audi service history problem is i still love the car regard all bry

Don't worry because forum member "Stoke" reckons this only affects a tiny number of 2.0TDi engines.

As of course an under engineered part will only give problems in a "tiny" number of vehicles.

Hopefully Audi will contribute towards the repair, though from what I have read they can be less than keen, not unusual for VAG, BMW or Mercedes.

Do some research on American based VAG forums as from memory our American cousins had a bit more luck getting paid out.
  • Most Diesel makers have the same issue.
The service intervals became like a Chinese harvest.

    8000, no 10,000, no 12,000, then 14,000, then 15,000 and now 18,000 on some.
In reality the oil is so dirty at 12k, you are on borrowed time after that.
Police diesels have oil every 8000, just like the old days regardless of exaggerated service intervals.
They know how to get 200k+ out of a diesel engined car
I do Contracts, all day every day.

Manufacturers stretch out the service intervals way beyond what is ideal for most people.
The usual result is premature wear for a lot of engine components but as long as it makes it out of the warranty period it suits the vendor.

People tend to prefer cars with longer service intervals as it appears they are saving money.

Which manufacturers are they ? The VW Group, so VW, Aud,i Skoda, Seat (not sure about Bentley) all say for the average 10,00 a year man change oil once a year . Only for the higher mileage driver do they stretch the service to 18,000K and that subject to control of the monitoring system.

There are a lot. FIAT and Vauxhall spring to mind but i imagine a lot more are, but it varies more on the engine than the manufacturer. Some engines can get away with it more than others.

I knew a mechanic who owned a Corsa C 1.2 16v from new and so did their neighbour. On his own Corsa he done the oil changes at approx 6k intervals and if i remember vauxhall recommended ever 12k.
He changed the timing chain at 120k miles on it and said the engine was fairy clean inside.

His neighbours timing chain was rattling it's head off at 80k miles and when he stripped it down to change that, it was all sludged inside a lot of areas with lots of carbon deposits.

His own car was serviced by himself and his neighbours had FSH with Vauxhall up to that point.

There was a few reports as well of mechanics changing oil filters on Corsa Ds with same engines and the oil filter had broken down so much it was almost like a paper mache texture

  • New here and got a question. Have a6 2006 2.0tdi with 215k miles. At 140k or so the car had engine failure because the hex key I believe. Turbo, oil pump and the oil sump was changed with this oil pump 03G103295AL. so wondering is this the new updated version with gears? I assume if the oil sump was changed too maybe its the fixed version?

This has just happened to me VW Passat 57plate 2.0 tdi 140bhp
Oil pressure warning light came on so stopped car. Car was taken to Local vw/audi specialist, told turbo, oil pump, and chain all damaged and engine damaged too around 3k to fix, and car not worth much more so I've lost it. Just so gutted, no warnings or anything..
After reading all the comments on here I'm firing off an email to VW.
  • i wish i had seen this forum long time ago and take necessary measures. it started with low oil pressure on b7 2.0 tfsi and mechanic said it clogged on the strainer. the next thing was rattling ontop of the engine. parked the vehicle. sad.
