I have just had the same! A4 2.0TDI 2005 and the oil pump blew on the M40, its now in the garage and facing a £3k bill.
This problem seems so common I cant believe Audi have not done anything about this, has anyone ever got any way with Audi UK?

So I too have fallen victim of the shoddy design of the 2.0 tdi VAG engine on an audi A6 avant now left carless with a lot of places to visit with work. So gutted and it's going to cost almost £4k shocking!0

Hi, I have came across this too late unfortunately. My oil pump and turbo was replaced by audi 10 months and only 9000 miles ago at a cost of £2600. VW garage so 2yr parts and labour warranty. The low pressure light has just came on again, there is no oil pressure and car is back in audi to see if it is a valid warranty claim. I've checked the receipts and pump was replaced originally but cannot see any evidence of replacing the hex drive shafts!!! I am worried that it will not be covered under this warranty if it is the shaft that has failed this time but last time it was the pump itself. Surely they will have replaced the hex drive at the same time as the pump. 2007 2.0tdi brd engine. Car is booked in this weds need as much info as possible for when they try and wriggle out of the warranty claim.0

Unfortunately I've just fallen foul of this, faulty oil pump has wrecked the turbo plus almost definitely the engine. Oil pressure light came on which basically means the engine is knackered. Gutted as it seems to be a common problem with Audi A4 2.0tdi (2007). I take it VAG won't be interested in helping out with the repair costs?0

V interesting to read all these posts, sadly it looks like the same problem is affecting me.
I've got a 2.0TDI 09 plate, auto. 75,000 miles. Bought privately 9 months ago. Mint condition, full service history.
Started with DPF yellow warning this time, manual advises put it in sport and run it for 10-15 and should burn off the particles. Did as asked and the turbo blew. Big clouds of white/blue smoke with low pressure oil warning.
Shut it down and RAC collected, warned it could be turbo. Took it to Skoda (as they had dealt with the vehicle's recent service history) true to form, it was the turbo. Advised replace turbo, but kudos to skoda, on taking turbo apart, they immediately realised the problem went much deeper. Oil Pump fail. Referred to Audi.
Audi charge me to transport it there and £60 diagnostic check. They fail to complete the diagnostic, then decide its £600 for the diagnostic as it involves removing the sump. This is only a diagnostic cost, not including parts of labour for repairs.
God knows where I go from here, but Skoda were saying £3k, Audi likely to charge way more. THe question is whether or not I can get compensation from Audi UK... but even if I do, suspect it will cost me just as much as if I stayed with Skoda.
Of course, Audi may have a bit more of a problem than they realise - I'm a commercial dispute solicitor... any with similar experiences, your advice much appreciated. Although loads on here already, little from '08 or '09 plates that I can see...0 -
Looks like this has just happened to me too. Driving home and the Oil Pressure warning came on and the brake servo failed. Audi can't even look at it until 10th August and of course didn't mention that this was a known issue so I have called Audi VW Specialists. They said it was very likely to be the hex rod rounding off and it is a very common problem. I agree with earlier posters that this merits an investigation by Martin. Perhaps Trading Standards and/or CAB could muscle in too.0

Amazing what effective PR can do for a marques image.
Also not good that VAG seem to be leaving many owners to fix I themselves.0 -
I was so lucky.. after buying my Audi A4 2.0 Tdi sline 2005 (BLB) engine, I looked online for issues with these cars and came across this issue on a forum. I took it to my local small garage and straight away he knew what I meant and said he had already fixed 2 of these cars with this engine problem.
I then kept worrying waiting for the light to come on. I cracked in the end and bought a kit offline for 120 quid from a well advertised auction site beginning with "E" and booked it in. He contacted me the next day saying he had changed all the parts including balance shaft (small hexogen bar) tensioner and cogs. He told me I was so lucky as the hexagon shaft had started to round off !! and passed it to me. I cannot believe that such a small tiny cheaply made part can cause such damage. I didn't upgrade to the later chain driven kit , and now I am hoping that this will last me a good few years. All in all cost around 3.50 quid, including parts and labour.
Audi need to start taking responsibility for this as this is not a few in a hundred cars it is a very high percentage of all cars with this ridiculous set up!..
I would like to thank everyone who has taken time to put a write up on all the forums etc.. as if it wasn't for them , I too would be facing a large bill..I just feel sorry for the thousands of others that have had this problem.
I will get mine changed again at around another 50,000 miles or so to be safe.
p.s - mine was changed arount the 92,000 mile mark.0 -
Hi
Interesting to read all these comments.
Did you manage to take any action against Audi?
Thanks
