Faulty iPhone from Tesco

I bought an iPhone 4 from Tesco around 19 months ago. A couple of weeks ago the phone's microphone stopped working which means that I cannot use the device for it's primary purpose i.e. making and receiving calls.
I visited the Tesco store and they said "it's past the 1 year standard warranty period so we can't help". I also visited a local Apple Store and they said pretty much the same thing but added that they would be willing to give me a like-for-like replacement but at a cost of £119.
I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice on my options. Can I carry on pushing Tesco and/or Apple or do I have to bite the bullet and take up the replacement offer?
Thanks for your help.

As above really, Apple only offer a 12 month warranty0

Accept Apple's offer.
Under Sale of Goods Act, if you can prove that the phone is inherently faulty (means the fault was present at the time of sale but maybe not apparent), then you are entitled to a remedy. One of those remedies is a partial refund taking account the use you have had from the thing.
£119 sounds like a very good exchange price, especially when you consider that you haven't been asked to prove the fault is inherent.
Put it another way... if you accept that offer then you have effectively had 19 months use for £119. About £6 or £7 a month, I make that.0 -

Thanks wealdroam, sounds like I need to head back to the Apple shop again.0 -

I should've said earlier but forgot, the sale of goods act stuff is only against the seller, i.e. Tesco.
The fact that Apple are making the offer is over and above anything they are legally bound to do.
Yes, I was aware of that and think that Apple have behaved very well in this case. It's Tesco that I'm not happy about. I have written a strongly worded letter to the head office. Let's see what they say and take it from there.0 -
My tesco iphone went faulty at 14 months. Went to the Apple shop and they confirmed it could not be fixed. They quoted £119. I asked to speak to the guy in charge, was very polite and said I thought it was poor the supposed best phone (and one of the most expensive) failed that soon and asked if he could do anything for me. He reduced the replacement price to £69.99. Got the new phone. That failed after 6 weeks but the replacement for that is going strong. Always worth asking politely. You never know.0

Thanks markybaby, I'll try the same tactics and see what happens.0 -
