Parking space size

Is there a minimum width to a parking space?

Parking at my hospital is so narrow that wing mirrors are virtually touching and doors cannot be opened more than 6 inches either side.

I doubt there are set sizes for car parks. As cars increase in size this will become an unavoidable problem.

I think this happened in a railway car park in Oxfordshire (Newbury?), where the bay widths were actually reduced to pack more cars in, and then motorists started getting private parking tickets for having their wheels touching the lines.

On the subject of wider cars, this presents a problem in multi-story car parks where bay widths are determined by the concrete pillars that hold the structure up. They can be a tight squeeze for large 4X4s.

Big cars - surely they are getting smaller?

We are talking about VW Polo's and Ford Fiesta's nearly being door to door, not a couple of Range Rovers!

The next stage will be to provide ramps so cars can be parked one on top of another, thereby doubling capacity at a stroke.

You are talking about a private car park and they make up the rules as they go along. If it were a Council car park then they may have to stick to certain size bays (certainly on street they do).

But a private car park, like a supermarket or hospital, nope.

Just park as best you can and if you get a fake PCN ignore it like everyone else does on this board.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

What if, in a pay & display car park with small bays and you in a massive 4X4, you had to park in 2 bays and bought 2 tickets ... no, sorry, stupid question, we all know what would happen ... you'd get 2 PCNs for not parking in 2 marked bays. :)

I want to know, why I witnessed today a traffic warden giving a ticket to some poor sod for over staying his time. Yet totally ignored the 2 cars clearly parked in the yellow hatched do not park zone! :-/

A real Council CEO (not a warden)? Or a private parking goon (even more NOT a warden!)!
