Cannot afford contract phone due to illness, what do I do?

Not too bothered about my credit history as I'll be entertaining payment agreements with credit card companies when I see the CAB next week (I cannot afford the repayments any more) and I know that will affect my credit.Consumer Britain on debt = Unsustainable0

In this case you can just stop paying to Vodafone as well.
As you have other creditors it seems that you couldn't afford it from the very start, not just now because of the illness.0 -

Admittedly my finances were stretched when I was working, and since becoming ill it has made me face reality. I have been unhappy for a long time and been spending to make myself feel happy...big mistake!
TBH having no credit available would be good for me to just spend what I have, I will NEVER use a CC again, and PAYG phone will keep me on top of my mobile costs.Consumer Britain on debt = Unsustainable0 -
Most people in a similar situation are incapable of admitting this...0

Tthis will cost you extra 20%. However, I agree that this is better if more than this will be spent on buying the airtime for the old Nokia if the contract is cancelled.
However, if the OP expects to be better and back in employment before the capital runs out, it might be an option.
Kudos to the OP for recognising the reality of his situation and dealing with it appropriately (and good luck with sorting out your debts). There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.

Since you are going to have to continue paying Voda anyway on this contract (unless you default, which will just get you deeper into debt), you might as well continue on the existing contract but using a cheap basic handset, and selling the iPhone.
Crazy to pay for PAYG on top of your monthly contract fee.
Trashing your credit history for the next 6 years is not a step to be taken lightly, when you finances improve you may still need basic credit facilities. No free lunch, and no free laptop

:T
This sentence alone means you're well on the way to sorting yourself out.
Be totally honest with the CAB, and follow their experienced advice. Make sure you include all bills and debts and they will explain the best routes open to you.0 -
yes but if theyre going into an iva or dmp anyway theyre credit will already be trashed no point trying to keep vodafone sweet for no reasonWhat goes around-comes around0

Earlier this year I had to stop working due to illness and am in receipt of benefit, I am trying to sort my debts and expensses and need to cancell my mobile phone contract as I can no longer afford it...unfortinuatley I am still within the contract and tried speaking to Vodaphone for them to say there is nothing that I can do and have to keep paying.
What do I do?

Come on Lee...
Don't waste the OP's time and yours. There was no a single case when the web reps were able to help in such situation.
Darylt, ignore what I said above and do what Lee says. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.0
