my big issue-heating!

hello,

can anyone advise?
I have just looked at my usage for this weekend, £1.65 for two days and £10 for the electric storage heater!! sound familiar!.( I am in the North) it is cold up here.
I have only one of these monstrosities, the estate was built in the 1970's with no gas supplied to it, so we have no choice  . I have got by quite happily without heating in the kitchen or bathroom but the bedroom is North facing and there has been damage to fixtures and fittings even though I can and have for health reasons to sleep in a cool room  , so I am loath to put another energy guzzling night storage monstrosity in , does anyone know of a cheaper way of keeping this room warm?. I had a Oil fired radiator but I was told they were expensive, :(
so I am not using that now.
I am disabled do I am in all day.

To those in the South, if we give you our water will you pay our heating bills?? :rotfl::rotfl: :grouphug: best wishes to our friends in the South!!

£10 seems an awfully huge amount considering the cost of a single medium sized storage heater is about £1 per night to recharge. Do you also have hot water heated during the E7 hours?

Storage heaters should not be in bedrooms anyway. They emit heat during the day when you are in the lounge. You would be better of getting an oil filled radiator to use overnight to keep the room above cold. Turning it off in the morning. Most of the electric will be during E7 hours and only a small amount will be in the peak hours such as late evening and late morning.

You need to check your unit rate as electric storage heating at night rates is not supposed to be that expensive.

Do you have the usage in kWh figures instead of £££?

I wonder if I have worked it out right??. my maths was never that good. I have an oil fired radiator in the bedroom which I have been using but I was told by some one at Npower that it is expensive, I have been using it at night, and low during the day on and off. My bills went from £ 40 a month to £ 86 a month this month , I had a new meter put in. six weeks ago, I know which is the day and night reading because I have done tests. I wonder if there is something wrong with the storage heater?. I have been put onto the " Billsaver" tariff at Npower. In fact some one at Nopwer sugessted that I have been undercharged for my electricity for years!!, the old meter packed up!. I am really wondering what is going on here!!??.:wall:

So...12 on the day meter and 19 on the night meter.

Not too bad for 1 storage heater and occasional use of an oil filled radiator during the day. The oil filled rad is probably rated at 2,000W so won't use more than that per hour. If you just use it an hour in the morning on max and an hour in the evening on max then that is only 4kWh which isn't much. 8kWh would be your normal day to day usage which when multiplied by 365 is about 3,000kWh per year which is normal. Your night usage is also fine heating water and one storage heater for 19kWh which is also fine. I don't see any problem.

What is your unit rate? Using my unit rate which is 15.15p day and 4.49p night. I get £2.67 plus 19p standing charges and then add VAT of 5% I get £3 per day. Multiplied by 30 days I get £90 per month. That's good for a cool in between seasons month such as May. You could expect to pay £40-£50 in summer (with no heating at all) and up to £120 in winter (with the heating on maximum).
