Is it worth getting the iPhone 4S or is it going to be obsolete soon?
I'm due for an upgrade now on Vodafone. I have been leaning towards the One X and Galaxy SIII on the sole grounds that I'm concerned that the iPhone5 will come out in the summer and render the 4S obsolete.
Would appreciate opinions as to what I should do:
Get the 4S now on contract and sell it in exchange for a 5 when it comes out or
Get the One X or the Galaxy SIII now and sell for an iPhone 5 when it comes out.

I never understood this obsession with getting the newest handset at any cost.
How about option 3?
- Buy 4S/SIII/OneX now and keep using it regardless of any new models emerging?
It's just a toy with mobile phone capabilities after all.0 -
Go on a cheap 12-month SIM-only tariff (with plenty of data) and wait for the iPhone 5 to come out (probably October). Then pay full price (probably £500) for the iPhone 5. Your iPhone will then not be SIM-locked, allowing you to use local SIMs when abroad and gives you the flexibility to switch networks after 12 months. With iPhones, it usually works out cheaper over 24 months to pay full price up-front for a SIM-free iPhone and get a SIM-only tariff.0

Which ever phone you get today will in your terms be obsolete in a couple of months so what does it matter - in fact I suspect most phones continue to work long after the next fad has been announced - it sounds like you don't care about the phone only about having the very latest whatever it does - perhaps this is better asked on a geek forum than on a money saving forum ?0

What phone do you have currently? If its just an iPhone 4 then keep it, it's just as good0

Going with the 4S might well be a plan as you can then keep any apps you buy.0

Handsets don't become obsolete when a new one comes out - at least not for a few years. What they do become is superseded.
This is the same with all technology - cars, mobiles, PC's etc. So you make a decision to go for what you need or want.
A good example is the new Galaxy SIII. The spec is announced and the new features described. Anyone is in a position to weigh up whether or not any additional costs are worth it or whether any of the new features are important to you.
Now I am not up with Iphones and don't know if the Iphone 5's new spec is out there. If it is, weigh up the new features and see if they are important to you.
Also, take an inward look at your own character. If you are the sort of guy who will beat themselves up if the Iphone 5 has some new features that will cause you immense dissatisfaction with the Iphone 4S over a 2 year contract period, then hold on.0
