Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

I really need some help!
I really want to lose some weight and trying on my own at home just isn't working
I have a WW and Slimming World groups near me but would really appreciate your views on which would suit me more.
I am 45, and need to lose about 2 stone (ideally by Christmas, but definately by next summer), I am a vegetarian and have quite a tight food budget.
Any help/comments/recipes would be so gratefully accepted, thanking you all in advance :T

Hello Pixie,
I'm sorry I don't know anything about weight watchers but have just started Slimming World. I'd been putting it off for years and finally decided that I just can't keep putting on weight so plucked up the courage to go on 9th May and was shocked to weigh 14 stone. It was good timing as I didn't weight that much when pregnant.
It's been great so far. I'm doing Extra Easy and I've probably been eating loads more than before but the right stuff. We've been more adventurous with the cooking and even DH is enjoying the food. I'm actually eating the fruit I buy instead of letting it rot. We have an Aldi close by so it's easy to get good value fruit and veg and decide what to eat based on the bargains. I think I'll probably spend less on groceries than before.
Just planted lots of veg in the garden which will help.
My advice would be to just do it. I wish I'd gone along sooner. I feel so energised and excited about getting back into shape.0 -
Both of them will work effectively if you follow them properly. I have done both successfully (and also not so successfully, i.e. when I haven't followed them!).
SW allows you to eat as much as you like of certain foods (pasta, fish, veggies, fruit, potatoes, lentils, lean meat, beans etc) but only a very small amount of treat type foods (alcohol, chocolate, cream, takeaways etc). It is a great diet if you like to eat a lot.
WW is more flexible in a way as you can if you want eat really light meals all day to compensate for going out for dinner in the evening for example. They do try to recommend that you use your points for healthy, filling foods. It is better than slimmnig world if you can accept being hungry at first (I was but I eat a lot!) until you get used to smaller meals, but want more flexibility in terms of 'treat' type foods.
I'm not sure if I've explained it right but I feel they both have their own pros & cons. Good luck with your weight loss!1% at a time no. 40. £8000 (For dream family holiday) 94/100

I'm doing WW and I've lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks. I find it very easy, most vegetables and fruit are 0 points so they fill me up
And my partner is going it too and he's lost 15 pounds in the same time  only thing is he doesn't know he's doing it :rotfl: as I do all the meal planning0 -
i have to say go for Slimming World,
i lost 6 stone,....well 5.13...in ten months and still had chinese takeaway every weekend!:o
i had christmas, biirthdays, weddings, my wedding anniversary, and still managed to work around the plan :j
good luck with wotever you decide :A0 -
Thank You for replying :j:j
I think if I felt hungry I would turn to the Pr!ngles, choc etc, so I feel I am swaying more towards SW.
I am just going to do it, I keep putting it off too!
Is there a thread for SW to help each other and keep motivated?
Thanks again, Pixie🎄The most wonderful time of the year 🎄0 -

I did WW years ago and couldn't get on with it. I've done SW in recent years and lost just under 2 stones. I need to go back but am having trouble motivating myself.
There are several women at my knitting group who go to WW and have all lost weight but they seem to save the points up and use for alcohol. I find this a bit disturbing and can't think that's it's healthy. All they talk about is how much alcohol they're consuming!0 -
Another vote for SW here. I have have lost 9.5 lbs in a few weeks :j. I have not been hungry once since i started with SW and as the weeks have gone on i have realised that my food choices have improved dramatically, not because i think that its what i should be eating but because i am actually want it.
For example i just had an apple as dessert after my dinner , something that would NEVER have happened 9 weeks ago. I feel that this is a very important to me because once i get to target i dont want to find myself going back to bad eating habits.
Have WW several times in the past, and while it worked initally i couldnt stand having that pang of hunger in my belly for a week or 10 days.
Yes The SW thread is here , feel free to come & say hello

No doubt these women will pile on the pounds again when they stop doing WW. Saving points for alcohol is bonkers

Can I suggest something else?
Rosemary Conley classes. I lose 3 1/2 stone in a year doing her classes. What I liked about it was the excercise class included in the fee because obviously thats just as important as the food.
I remember my first class as clear as day. It was horrific and I felt like I wanted to die. But it got easier.
I had to stop going as they changed the class day and I couldn't get to go anymore and once I stopped I put back on 1/2 a stone. But its slowly coming back off again with more effort put into excercising rather than sitting on my bottom!
The diet its self I found quite easy, as all the information is given on the back of the food packaging, calories and fat.
I did try SW and WW, but the points system confused me alot, I like to try and keep things simple were possible.
RC isn't for everyone, but it is there as an option and it does work. :-)0
