Valli hugs, stand strong and practice saying the N word.
Wot she said! At my last job, they kept wanting me to drive myself and a carful of colleagues to meetings at Andover (I worked in Bicester, so quite a distance), but didn't like paying for my petrol up front; I pointed out to them that I was skint, my credit card wouldn't take any extra use (KH kept it maxed out buying accessories for his[STRIKE] toy[/STRIKE] model trains) so if they wanted me to comply, either give me some petrol money or find another chauffeur for the staff!

We're almost packed now; just a few last-minute bits to put in; I'm taking the parasol I bought last year in Belgium, it'll be good to have the sort of weather to use it!:D

the best laid plans of mice and Valli gang aft agley...

errand this morning - had packed clean clothes and a towel so I could have a swill and change before going into work, UNPAID, to support a PTA all afternoon thingy. Anyway forgot to put bag in car so nipped home - but showered so felt fresh, rammed sandwiches down throat and got in car. Turned key. *click*
    oh dear *click*

nipped in and phoned work to tell them I'll have to cry off, car won't start.

Thinks to self - car is v. warm - and that *click* sounds like starter motor not playing (know full well it isn't battery as car won't 'turn over') - wonders if car might start when cooled down.
ring Mike the Mechanic (real name, honest)
He says he thinks it might start when it's cooled down - that starter motor is probably on way out though and will try to get one and if he can will come for car later unless I can get it started.

Anyway go back out - car starts - leave engine running (am not daft;)) run in house and ring Mike the Mechanic and arrange to take car myself. Take car.

Is nice sunny day. Decline offer of v. busy mechanic (has a car in already and is 'squeezing' mine in as is not working Saturday) of lift 'to Tesco' and decide to walk. Walk by side of Chesterfield Canal (to Tesco, near enough) then walk rest of way home. Am now VERY freckly. Have never walked that way before - was lovely - had chat with youngish couple, lady in motability scooter, with dogs - thought of LW;) when I inquired of them where exactly I would get to as wasn't 100% sure ;)
In true Pollyanna mode though am v. v. impressed by timing of fault as today is payday;)

Hope CERTAIN members of PTA/Governing Body don't think I was being petty as I didn't get a F/T post ;) because I'm not...

Have deleted rant BTW, for safety - thanks for listening.

I've finished the last of the dusting for this week; leaving the bungalow clean and tidy, though I dare say there'll be a patina of dust on everything when we get back.

Valli tbh, your walk sounds much more fun than attending the PTA thingy, Shame the car's going to cost money though.

Right, I'm signing off now; see you when I get back, everyone.

I NEVER thought I'd get a first in a million years! I struggled at times as my daughter has loads of health issues but I just got my head down and got on with it. It's amazing what a bit of sheer bloody mindedness can do:D I just thought, this is it, this is my one chance to get a great degree, the only person that can stand in my way is me.

Been pottering around today, catching up on flying in between slapping calamine lotion onto my spotty monkey.

    Have a great holiday LW:)
