Cancelling phone line. What happens to broadband?

I'm moving from BT to Virgin soon. My BT phone line will hence cease.
Currently I have an Orange Home Broadband, which is free for me (legacy package).
I understand that if I cancel my broadband I will have to pay about £30 broadband cancellation charge to Orange. Also once the broadband is cancelled I will in future not be able to get the same deal as Orange stopped offering this.
What if I just cancel my BT line and don't ask Orange to do anything to my broadband? Will orange automatically find out about the line termination and charge me the cancellation fee?

If the phone line is cancelled then any broadband on it will be automatically cancelled, and the ISP will get notified by BT of the cancellation. Whether Orange then do anything with that notification is another matter, but you'd be on potentially sticky ground if you hadn't notified them of the cancellation.
Is the potential grief worth it for £30?0
