As stated in post #19, it's just a toolbar and easily reversible changes to your browser settings - Why install anvisoft's crapware to get rid of it?

Because it was suggested in Post #4How do I add a signature?0 -
My point is that you don't need to install software to remove it, as the link in your post (# 13) showed figment. (do some research on anvisoft's smart defender).
With all due respect to some of the earlier posts - It isn't an infection itself.
I pointed out it could be (and has been) installed by malware - That doesn't make it malware itself, but is the work of dodgy affiliates who use malware to get it installed, then get paid out from the company for the installation. How Dangerous is searchnu.com/406 Infection
This infection will change your registry settings and other important windows system files. If searchnu.com/406 is not removed it can cause a complete computer crash
I'll leave you to make your own mind up.... Out of the frying pan....?0 -
I'd made my mind up around post #2.
My point was that the poster of post #20 had taken the advice given in post #4 and installed anvisoft. He/she probably didn't read past that point until after it had been installed.
One of the inherent problems with searching for solutions on the internet is that the searcher happens upon a potential fix that says "Do this, it works" and immediately does so. By the time they read further and find that someone else posted "Don't do that.... because" it's too late. How do I add a signature?0 -
Try these instructions (ignore the advert at top of page, scroll down a little to find the removal instructions).
Thanks so much for this - was so annoyed with myself for ending up with:
https://www.searchnu.com/102 overtaking Firefox and Chrome (from downloading a free unzip prog.) Should've known better
Trying to google for a solution was an absolute minefield too - could have ended up with lots more probs.
I'm replying at work but will try those instructions on my PC at home this afternoon.
