As she is running a mysql database then it should be there anyway.

Not necessarily. The host can customise their control Panel to add/remove modules or limit functionality. I've seen many hosting accounts with MySQL databases with no way of manually manipulating the tables.

From what information I'd gotten, I'd assume that she's on hosting with cPanel, so I'd assume pma is there.

phpMyAdmin is included in a standard cPanel install, but can be excluded from a custom panel using WHM

True. In my experience I haven't had 1 host who'd disable it though :P

Unless the host is a con artist that charges for editing the database....

Jenny, have you tried speaking to your host? They might be able to restore your old blog. I had an issue a some time ago when messing about with some coding and completely messed up my site. They restored it for me thankfully so I didn't lose a thing.

I consider myself quite techie but when it comes to php, mysql and even some of the options on cpanel you need to have the confidence to do it as it can be quite daunting. If you're not sure I wouldn't do it unless someone can talk you through it step by step. You can sometimes find blog articles and youtube videos to do this but there's still a risk involved.

Spoke to my host. They installed a plugin - Add to Google Library or something - and suddenly all fixed! Thank you for all the replies.
