I don't think Barclaycard like me...

Some basic information: I'm 19, Been using a Capital One Progress Card 7 months paying off in full each month, I have a decent paying job, lived in the same house for 19 years, on the electoral role and never been in debt.

I did a pre application for a Barclaycard, and it came back with "sorry we cant provide you with a card just now". Not even a Barclaycard Initial with a £200 limit.

I don't pay attention to credit expert or anything, but I'm unsure why Barclaycard can't even issue me with their credit card, designed for people with bad credit history.

Anyone else have this ? Or know why Barclaycard seem to be so tight about their cards ?

As far as I know there is nothing stopping them refusing you simply due to your age. Also it could be possible that they've determined you have enough available credit with the Progress card to your income. Apart from that no one really knows their internal criteria, so the best anyone can give is guesses.

You have 7 months of credit history and you're only 19.

Not sure what your salary is but don't expect to just be able to jump to a prime lender.

Wait until you have at least a years worth of clear payments, get a phone contract and try again in 6 months.

Forgot the main part, my friend who has never had a credit card, he is the same age as me and works for his dad, cash in hand. He got approved for the Barclaycard Initial...

He's had a phone contract for a year or so, but so have I. I really dont see whats going on with them.

best to actually check your credit files to make sure there is no errors on them

then just continue to use your existing card regularly and pay in full each month and try again in about 6 months.

It's pretty low avoiding tax when others pay it, and it's pretty low putting a friend in a position where they know about it and have to weigh up the ethics of reporting it or not.

I wouldn't get involved by reporting it, but would never criticise anyone with the guts to do so. It takes a strong person to stand up for morals against a friend like that.

It doesn't take a strong person to be a grass it's called being a coward, telling on your mate who is probably getting £30 cash in hand and learning the trade and is actually getting up on a Monday morning trying to better himself in life and once he knows the trade then goes on to pay tax.

Now people spending tax money like Job seekers allowance on drugs and alcohol now thats a different story.

It would be so easy to report people I know who are doing cash jobs but one it is not my business and its for the authorities to catch them and two I have to live with myself.

Stabbing someone in the back is not my forte!

That sounds like an automatic fail due to the lending criteria... you obviously didn't fit the bill :/

whats a decent paying job though and what area are you in? I'm on 18K, 21 years old and in a small seaside town, I don't even know if that would be considered decent paying in the grand scheme of things, even though it's quite swell for my needs...
