Studio flats

There is a studio flat to rent down the road for me at a decent rent.
Is it horrible to live in one room and only have a sofa bed to sleep on?

Phil do you always ask questions which cqan be answered by "it depends"

I dont think many people who buy or rent studio flats thik its "horrible"

It might not suit everyones lifestyle but theres a certain type of person it DOES appeal to .

I dont think i could do it for long, 6 motnhs maybe, its the lack of kitchens in studios that repel me the most.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Most teenagers live in one room (their bedroom) I'm sure they'd love it.

look at it objectively - rented studio flat with sofa bed (there are different types of sofa bed - some are great) ...freedom....or life in your room with normal bed but no freedom, no hope, etc. I think the studio flat wins hands down.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Go and look at it and decide whether you think you could live in the space. I had friends who lived in a studio flat and we used to get plenty more of us in there to crash on the floor!

1st property I bought was a studio flat and I shared it!
It had a small bathroom, kitchen, quite a large lounge/come everything else but its bonus was it was 1st floor and had a loft access!
All non essentials could be stored. Winter clothes went away in Summer, big coats/boots/biking gear in Winter.
We had a sofa bed, but a 3 seater not a piddly 2 seater foam style one. It ws a purpose built flat so things fitted rather squashed in or odd corners etc of convertions I have seen.
One downfall about the place tho was when you had a row there was nowhere to storm off to! :rotfl:

I've lived in three and loved it. Some have seperate kitchens. If not, as long as you keep it clean it is great to be able to cook in front of the telly and is sociable if you have mates round! Sofabed also not really a problem, but I would avoid a futon (I had one) as they vary in comfiness and are only supposed to be used for about a year. Cheap to heat too.

It has a tiny Kitchen and a bathroom but other than that it is all in one room and you need a sofa bed.

  • Hi

I've lived in Paris for a bit and thousands of people live happily in studios for years on end. I guess it's just mind set.

Is there a legal definition of a studio flat? I thought that these were when they had the kitchen and living area together.

I also took a bedsit to mean that the bedroom and living area are one.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

A friend of mine lived in a studio flat for 7 years - it was all she could afford to buy when she was invalided out of nursing in the late Eighties - and it taught her the invaluable lesson of not collecting clutter. Even now in her large 2-bed house, her furnishings are somewhat spartan.

Her studio had a separate kitchen and bathroom, and she had a 2'6" wide permanent single bed made for one corner. The main room was a decent size - something like 10' X 16' - she had the TV and video on top of the chest of drawers at the end of the bed in a corner, and a small round dining table across the other side of the room with folding chairs. A rocking-chair, a sofabed for guests and a bookcase. The kitchen contained a large walk-in cupboard which served as a wardrobe and store for her records. The feel of the place was lovely - it felt more welcoming than any of the places she's had since (2 2-bed flats, and now her house).

I bought a 1-bed flat in the same development, and it still felt as if she had more floorspace than me.
I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.
