Cruise to the Fjords for my 60th!!!

I am 60 next year and would like to celebrate with a special cruise to the Norwegian Fjords.
We have never been on a cruise before and would love some advice about the best way to arrange such a trip and how to get the best out of it.
Thinking of going next August.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Unless you want to go on a particular ship in a particular cabin, I wouldn't consider booking this far ahead.

Celebrate early and go this year there are some great deals

19June Princess <£600pp 12night is the one we are thinking about.

Best prices seem to be through a German TA

Here is a UK TA (there are others)

both those and others allow you to search for cruises that meet your criteria

then get the brochures and research cruise lines and ships.

watch prices this year to get an idea of what are good prices

Anybody ever booked via a German TA ? They are the cheapest prices as the Euro rates are so good to GBP

Oh Lor', if I tried to book on that German site I'd end up in Tipperary when I wanted to go to Timbuctoo!

Take a look at http://www.hurtigruten.co.uk/norway/ - their boats are often big local ferries so you don't spend the whole trip eating and they can go into smaller fjords - did their Northern Lights cruise a while back and it was excellent

If you have never cruised before Hurtigruten could be a little extreme. It is little more than a ferry, the newer ship does have a pool, but its not to be compared to a cruise ship.

OP the brochures for next year are now out. Go and get them all and spend a few hours browsing. I would also suggest waiting until this time next year and look for deals.

One was advertised this week for a 2 week Fjord and Iceland trip. £799 in a balcony cabin, leaving in 2 weeks.

Original brochure price would have been over £3,000!

Go for longer than 7 days. The Fjords are amazing. Go in July and you will get the midnight sun at northern latitudes.

If you are going primarily for the scenery go for Hurtigruten

If you are going primarily for the cruise with a bit of incidental scenery tacked on then go for a 'proper' cruise ship
