What should a male wedding guest wear?

My OH and I are guests at a wedding in a couple of weeks. I am wearing a bridesmaid dress, and he has a nice pinstripe dark grey suit. What sort of shirt/tie should he wear? Is there a normal style? The wedding invitation doesn't specify, so we were just thinking white shirt with a tie of some sort, but Im not sure how you then make it look more of a wedding suit than a 'just going to work' suit, or if you don't?

Any ideas? Thanks

I generally wear a shirt and tie that compliments my oh outfit, steering clear of white, which is pretty standard office wear

As for my suit, a suits a suit generally, ill normally wear a smarter one that i wear to work, perhaps black or navy

I generally wear a white silk shirt and a tie to match my 3 piece suit when going to weddings. Some blokes wear bow tie's but I tend to think that the best man or groom should wear that attire and not guests.

How old is he? There are so many factors that influence what he should wear. Just avoid anything that looks at home in an office setting.

Thanks. He's 32. We're not really dressy people in general

They are pale green, but I assume that is what the groomsmen are wearing for their ties, rather than the guests?

Lastcouple of weddings we went too, DH wore his best work suit, which is navy, and a smart dark striped shirt - no tie. He checked no tie was ok with the wedding couple beforehand.

Just be grateful he's wearing a suit! My OH doesn't even own one far less wear one for anything. I would say any colour rather than white and not too dark either for the shirt and tie.

I'd steer clear of a white shirt too - it could look too corporate.

I'd try and get my DH to wear a tie to match my dress. Did I read your dress was green? If so a matching green tie and shirt in the same colour (one of those sets you can buy) might look good with a dark gray suit. I wouldn't worry about him looking like the groomsmen since they'll probably be wearing white shirts and cravats or similar.

I'd definitely avoid a bow tie. IMO they only look good when they're untied and your name is James Bond!

agree with avoid white, if its a grey suit have charcoal or different shade of grey shirt with nice tie
thats what my hubby does and he scrubs up well
shirt and tie i think is the best thing if not wearing a kilt
