Passport In My Maiden Name.

I'm quite surprised to see so many people took their husbands name but didn't change their passport until it expired. I must be really sad but I was really excited to get my new passport in my new name, and it was almost as significant to me as the marriage certificate
I actually changed mine before the wedding, so had it in the new name to fly off on honeymoon with the day after the wedding, and even though the passport office told me I didn't have to change it if I didn't want to pay the fee, I chose to do it.
I know it takes all sorts, but it would be weird to me to plan to keep a passport in my maiden name for 8 years after my wedding. Like I would have two identities for all that time, or was keeping my options open for some reason.0 -
^^ No need to read so much into it Nicki: I'm just a bit tight with my cash
Plus, where I live (in France) you keep your maiden name for tax purposes for your entire life, regardless of if you are married/choose to use your husband's name, so it perhaps doesn't have the same significance here. My MIL still has stuff come through the door from the tax office with her maiden name on and she's been married for more than 30 years! It's also a similar story with social security: I got a new card with my name on after my marriage, but on my file at several medical professionals' offices it's still in my maiden name, even though I've seen them since the marriage and advised them of the name change. Not to mention that here everyone is called "madame" after they're 18 anyway irrespective of their marital status0 -
I didnt change my name till after my honeymoon either. I travelled to the USA and Australia.
I think the problem may arise , as others have said, is if you change your credit cards etc before you go.
If everythings the same then, no problem.0 -
i got married in 2009 and my passport still has a good few years left so it is in my maiden name (why should i have to spend another £100 or so buying a new one) I just book tickets etc in maiden name have had no problem and dont intend to change it until it runs out. Passport office are not getting anymore money out of me costs far too much to apply anyway. Keep it as it is until it runs out and book in maiden name. I was excited by changing my name after getting married but come off it not that excited that i wanted to see it on a passport - it was changed on DL and everything else though.

Nicki - many people do use both names even after they are married. I do and I know lots of women who use their maiden name in a professional context and married name in a personal context.0

Just to add ... some people don't change their name when they get marriedThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
As long as all your documents (and any you are carrying) are in your maiden name you should not have a problem. Problems arise if you have documents (including bank cards) in different names.
The US are very strict and will interview you for hours if there is the slightest discrepancy. Best leave everything in your maiden name until after you travel.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
I'm with Nicki - there is nothing more exciting than being Mrs Zcrat41 on your passport.
It seems to me like you want to be known in you married name so I'd pay the money to change ( I did last year!)
If you were keeping your maiden name for professional reasons or somesuch I wouldn't be so fussed.
But tbh, you're original post makes you sound more like Nicki and I than some of the other posters.0 -

Or just leave your own bank cards at home.
Honestly OP, as long as your tickets, passport and esta/visa match no-one is going to start asking you to show your bank cards. US immigration do not have a direct link to the UK, they cannot miraculously call your name up on a computer and know that you got married but haven't changed your passport.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
