Fortunately i do not have to justify myself to the patronising sanctimonious holier that thou posters.

No, you are right, you don't.

But why on earth did you post in the first place? You clearly thought you would get replies that sympathised with you.

Instead you got replies that told it like it is.

I'm actually sorry you've been attacked like this, and I realise I was one of the main participants, but I am truly bothered by your easy come easy go attitude. And instead of taking on board the points raised, you have attempted to defend your indefensible position by calling us names. All because you didn't like what you were told.

I agree with the sentiments, we made a mistake taking this dog on. we realised that pretty quickly and did what we thought, and still think, is the best thing.

i understand that passion dog owners have for not only their pets but dogs in general.

And as for posting, you are right, i was not sure i was making the right decision and was not looking for sympathy, as i have been around these forums long enough to know it would not be forthcoming. just some reassurance that the decision i made was the right one. which some seem to think i should have kept a dog that i felt was not suitable.

i have not called anyone names, i said the posts were sanctimonious and holier than thou.

so there you go, what's done is done. can't change it.

You could commit to not putting a another poor animal through the mess you seem to of made of the situation.

I think you have made the right decision but it will be the wrong decision to get another dog.

I don't think many rescue dogs would be settled in just 2 weeks.
    Especially such a young dog.
I had a guide dog puppy specifically bred to be calm and easy to train but she was a crazy wild thing until she was older.
I don't think you gave the dog a chance, call me what you want if it makes you feel better but animals are living things and can't just be treated like an impulse buy.
I also find your aggressive responses depressing.

Ouch, I think people are being a little harsh to the OP.

I do agree that 2 weeks is no time for any dog to settle in, let alone a high energy breed at that (Kevin!) age. Collies are high energy and IME labs are one of the hardest to deal with breeds until at least two years old. An older dog isn't always easier either tbh, my terrier who I rehomed at 8 took 6 months to settle properly - he only spent an afternoon at the kennels before I took him home - but I only realised that by hindsight really once I saw him relaxed IYSWIM.

OP, have you spoken to the rescue? They can often provide support and practical help, it's amazing what little things can help to bring everything back into proportion when you're at your wits end and worried. They don't want the dog to bounce back into rescue anymore than you do and at least then you'll know that you gave yourself and the dog every chance even if you can't resolve this in the end.

While rescue is a very good thing to do, especially if you want to avoid the whole housetraining, house trashing and puppysitting bit, it still requires commitment and training in bucket loads no matter which dog you take home. They will all have "issues" (hate that word, it's not meant in a negative way) that you have to work with until you and the dog peacefully co-exist!When you've had them since a pup you will have had time to grow to love them before you hit the 'orrible teenage months - when you get them at that age it's harder because you don't have the same bond 2 weeks in and it's very easy to get disheartened. Believe me, even those who have them since 8 week old pups veer between love and frustration as all our hard work goes out the window for a couple of months - sad to say but that is reason that so many young dogs end up in rescue...

Don't give up yet OP, there is lots of advice and help available if you ask for it both in RL and online and honestly, the teenage times don't last that long ;)

    Hi OP,
We rescued an 8month old Lab in March. For the first few weeks it was very hard work , she had never been trained to walk on a lead and to top it off she was recovering from a broken hind leg which had been pinned.
It took a lot of patience and a lot longer than two weeks for her to accept us as her family. Your dog may only just be getting used to it,s name if you have changed it.
Try training classes , ours was the oldest and worst behaved there but it did make a huge difference. It helped us to understand how to work with her.
Please don,t give up on him , I promise you will find that this behavour will settle down .
I am so proud of my dog , after the very bad start she had in life she is turning into the most beautiful , loyal and loving pet I could ever wish for.

Please try puppy training classes before you give up on him

The OP has stated that she has already returned the dog, so all the advice on how to better the situation is falling on dumb ears I'm afraid.

I think all those angered by OP's actions would of understood a little better if OP had actually put SOME effort into caring and training the dog, but alas, his face must just not of fit her family!
