What happens when you cancel contract?

1st time I have ever cancelled my contract. I decided to give 30 days notice and leave 3.

Well in fact I already had and hadn't been using the 3 contract phone for a few mths.

It ended on the 15th May and went to check the status online and couldn't sign in, used my house phone to dial 3 contract # and it tells me the # is not recognised.

So am assuming my old # is now no longer in use?

Will I get a letter from 3 confirming my contract has ended/been cancelled? Do I get a final paper bill now that my online account has obviously been deleted?

Sorry for silly q's, but like stated this was my 1st contract phone.

Normally you have to get the final bill that says at the bottom:

"....We closed your 3 account on 'Date' 'Month' 'Year'.
This bill is is for your records only. (Alt: Your account is in credit so just call us to arrange a refund.)"

I got almost that exact wording when I closed my mobile broadband account. And to my surprise it was even refunded within 5 days of my phonecall.

Thank you, that makes sense as my last direct debit was the 8th May, but of course the contract didn't finish until the 15th May.

Double check at a 3 store sometime next month. And then try to ring your old number from another handset.

There are a number of threads on here where, after some months, MSE members have had debt collectors seeking £00's on contracts they thought had finished and 3 seems to be the main culprit.

I always PAC my number to a different network - £ 10 on a PAYG sim is worth peace of mind and you can always use tat sim to call 0845 numbers or, if Orange, get Orange Wednesday texts.
  • I can't log in to my account on the 3 website anymore at which I'd put in my mobile #. So I rang my number off my house phone and it tells me the number is not recognised, also when I turn my handset on it tells me no network attachment.

I've lost my 3 number as I got fed up with 3 so actually moved networks at xmas and of course changed my number.

So with all of that I am assuming my contract has been ended, but will wait for the final bill as confirmation.
