This has been posted countless times ...
The petition is poorly phrased and does not propose anything specific - it will not achieve anything.0 -
I just came across this on another site and had no idea it had been posted on here before so I apologise0
-
No need to apologise, someone spammed it at one point, so it got a bad press. People need to be writing to their MPs about the changes, and explaining how they affect them - general petitions don't give the opportunity for that detail.0

36,000 - 0.6% of signatures out of the 6m people that currently claim sickness and disability benefits?
That really is going to get things moving.
Even if you had 100,000 signatures, that still represents a miserly 1.7% of the possible total!
Do almost 10% of the population claim? That is a huge proportion.
60 years of totally free at point of delivery healthcare and 10% of the population are claiming benefits because of ill health. Amazing.0 -

Especially when you add in the rest of the benfits system, housing benefit et al, child related benefits and then the massively expensive tax credit system.
No wonder change's are coming!0 -
The 6m I quoted are claimants, not the amount of money paid out. That figure has too many zeros for my liking!
As for the rest of the welfare payments, it has got to stop. Everybody and their dog is claiming for something!!!
You included who gets HR DLA and whatever else you canI always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -
It now has 37,000 signatures and their a number of reasons it possibly does not have more and that is the fact there is not one place a lot of disabled people visit to make them aware of the petition. Also many people are frightened to sign thinking the Government might hold it against them, which if true would be a poor reflection on the UK. You also get a number of people who think petitions are useless. But what they are forgetting is that they all have a cumulative affect and can change public opinion if not that of the Government. I would disagree also that the petition is badly worded it is aimed at the moderates and tries to encompass a wide range of people and disabilites who are affected by the cuts.
One such action that has helped change opinion is some good news at a recent conferrence where GP's on the BMA have voted against ATOS medical examinations.

Therefore the more people that can support Pat's Petition the more it reinforces the fact that the Government have got it wrong and should revisit the legislation to deal with welfare. So everyone please sign the petition and share it is important.

The idea is that the petition if it gets the numbers will get an MP to take it forward to discuss in Parliament and it is at that point that people should also contact their MP's to let them know their opinions. Individual letters to MP's do not always let everyone know the true extent of the numbers who are in favour of a particular action.0 -
We are both in our later years, never voted and never signed a petition.
Are you saying that we are responsible for the state of the political parties and laws that are prejudicing the sick, ill and disabled?
The current government make it clear that there will be no turning back no matter how many petitions you sign!!!
No I am not saying that. I can understand the reluctance for whatever reason to sign a petition. However, unless we wait another few years for an election to take place the only way forward bar a revolution is through decisions made in Parliament.
Unless you can tell me of another way it seems we are stuck with trying to influence MP's and at least a petition if it attracts support has a chance if other charities and groups also support it of making the MP's change their mind.
If you support the idea in principal I don't see why you would not want to sign even if you think ultimately it won't do any good, as surely you have to try or you are defeated before you even start.0 -

Almost certainly not. The 6 million figure's arrived at by adding the number of claims for DLA to the number of claims for ESA, but of course many people claim both.0
