    Type 6 zeroes in the box under ''Type:''

    Click on the cell with the little green flag, then on the exclamation mark in a diamond in a box that should appear to the left of it, and select "Ignore Error" from the drop down list.

    That works. I now have a number 001299 (not text or a label) with no green flag in the cell.:cool:

    As an aside, you can still use a number shown as text in a calculation by using the VALUE function.
