MS Excel help please

I'd like some help please with MS Excel 2007. I'm trying to enter a number in a cell but I'm having problems.

I want to enter the number 001299 for example. It drops the first two digits (zeros) and leaves 1299 in the cell.

Is it possible to display 001299 in the cell? If yes, can you explain how to do it.

Thanks

Use an apostrophe beforehand, ie enter: '001299 .

Will this number be used in any calculations?

If not, then you can define the cell as Text, then numbers will display exactly as entered.

Select cell(s), then Format > Cells > Number Select 'Text' from the list.
How do I add a signature?

    Thanks Figment.

No, it's not being used in a calculation but I did want it to show as a number...........rather than as text.

it will look like a number (e.g. 001299) and you can format the dell to align it to left/right/centre. The only difference is the cell contents are defined as text so you won't be able to use them in calculations (which you just said you don't need).

    Format > Cell > Number >custom then enter 6 0s (000000)

It stays as a number but displays with leading zeroes.

Yes, I've tried it................but it puts a little green flag in the left corner of the cell.

It doesn't when I enter 001299............I end up with 1299 again.

It looks like I can't have the number 001249 in the cell unless I enter it as text or I have a little green flag in the corner..............unless someone knows a way.;)

Hmmm ... well, so far I can offer you "00 12 49" (with spaces) by selecting the Custom formats, French (France), Numero de Telephone (Maroc).

I'll keep hunting through the remaining languages!
