Ever since the speed of loading issue was sorted for me (thanks Ian) I have been returning to the top of the page when I use my browser back button.
It only happens within MSE and if I leave the site to go check my email and use the back button to return it brings me back to the position on the page I was at.
For example -
I am a well known for spending a lot of my time in the Arms and if I hit the back button from there it takes me to the top of the forum rather than the point on the page where I clicked to enter the Arms.
Not a major issue and I can scroll back to where I want to be but it can be a bit annoying if I am searching through the 'New Posts' facility and go off to read one of the posts, I want to go back to the point on the search returns page where I was but end up at the top of it instead and have to find where I had got to.

Hi torbrex,
I saw another user having issues with the back button in this thread. Either it fixed itself or the user fixed it. It was resolved quickly anyway. Though your problem seems a little different. I'll look into the problem as soon as I can.Ever since the speed of loading issue was sorted for me (thanks Ian)
You give me too much credit. You fixed it. Please may I ask what you changed? The information might help others.

Seems to work in IE8, Firefox 11, Chrome 19.0.1084.46, and IE 9.0.8. But it doesn't work in another copy of IE 9.0.8 with chrome frame installed.

I have been having the same issue as torbrex... Everytime I use the back button, It takes me to the top of the last page instead of remembering where I was. It started happening a couple of months ago as before that it worked fine. It is not a big issue, just annoying to have to scroll all the way down searching for where I was.
I'm using IE8 and this only happens with MSE. On my iPhone it works fine.
If anyone knows how I can fix this I would be very grateful0 -
Yup, still happening here.
Only on MSE and only if I use the back button within MSE, if I go off site and come back again, I get back to the point on the page where I was.0 -

Still not fixed, I don't think it ever will be now0

Hi Torbrex,
How the back button works is down to your browser. We can't fix it. It works fine on most browsers. But there’s a bug in the one you’re using.
Even though we can’t fix browser bugs it’s often possible to work around them by removing things from the page. The less there is on the page the less likely you are to run into bugs. In this case we’d need to remove a seemingly random, innocuous little chunk of our page. This works around the bug. But also breaks the masthead. This would be a big inconvenience for many users. So it’s a bit of a non starter.
I hope this browser bug will be fixed in the future. Meanwhile there are a couple of workarounds. There are plenty of browsers where the back button works fine. Alternatively just use the page up and page down keys to return to where you were on the page. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Does this to me too, a bit annoying.
Only happens on this site so don't see how it can be a bug with my browser.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -

Its all very well saying that other browsers are available but IE8 is my browser of choice and gives me the fewest problems (only 1 at the moment)
Its also fine and well saying that I should use the page up or down buttons, that is what I am having to do but it spoils my browsing experience.
You guys changed something on this site at one of the upgrades and the problem I am having started immediately, I have updated my browser version since then but the problem still exists.
I know that you can't please all of the people all of the time but I am starting to feel decidedly picked on every time you do an upgrade.MarilynMonroe wrote: »Does this to me too, a bit annoying.
