Paying past mobile phone contract terms

Hi, i was wondering whether anyone could help. I've had a 18 month I phone contract with O2. This contract ended in February and i have still been paying £35 a month since then.
I rang o2 and they explained that i have to notify them whether i want the contract to end. So as a result i told them to end the contract, and then asked whether i would be entitled to any of the fees i had been paying when i wasn't using the phone, to which i got a reply of no.

I haven't used the phone since last summer as i lost it. I took out a new contract and used a new phone. I tried cancelling the iphone contract early however due to the cost i decided to just let it run.

Does anyone know if there is any way of reclaiming the money i have paid past the 18 month contract. As i see it if i have been paying past the 18 month contract what is the point in setting a contract for 18 months!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is a common delusion that a contract ends after a certain number of months. In fact 18 months is the minimum term and after it expires the contract goes on until you give a 30 days notice to cancel it. If you check the T&C you'll see that they are perfectly clear about this.

Regardless of using the airtime you have to pay - this is the main difference between a contract and a PAYG.

No, you don't have any rights to 'reclaim' the money. The only you can do is to admit making a mistake and to appeal to their generocity and goodwill.

Grumbler's right, it's you're responsibility to keep on top of these things. You should have give 30 days notice in writing in the last month of your contract.

You can't reclaim any money, just give your 30 days notice and move on.
