Yes I have always done the NPB route, as the eBay have told me that is the safest way in the past + experience!

It does get annoying as such large amounts are involved. I somebody went on a spree like that, it could easily create problems, I contacted eBay as the first one was clearly fraud, left me positive feedback, straight away!

eBay just the normal procedure, file the claim and wait..... Now that is all well and nice, but when it is clear in writing there should be a faster way. Also such items that I sell, it would be normal for them to make an offer (Best Offer) not just click buy now, that's why straight away alarm bells gets going, when I see it is outright purchase!

12% is eBay's fees, nice slice for them!

Can't you do away with the best offer & have a straight BIN, with immediate payment, at least that way it isn't actually sold until it's paid for. (I think).

How would removing the Best Offer help? When that is in fact the best way to get business done, as it gives more options.

Immediate payment is not an option for me, as that guarantees another 2-3 % in fees, if possible I will suggest other payment methods to avoid this.

All depends what you selling, I have had success with this business model for me, might not work for all.

2 items sold, one was £350 in fees, the other + £650.

12 % in fees by eBay, works out like that.

So we are talking about items costing £3000 and £6000? Ebay should have some controls in place before you are allowed to make purchases of this size.

I have had a situation in the past where buyer asked to cancel, I sent the cancellation request and they declined it. I rang eBay customer services and they overrode the "no" from the buyer to "yes" since their previous comms were clear that that was what they intended.

On a related note to non paying bidders I had one three months ago. Just about to open a NPB case when I noticed he had placed bids on two of my upcoming auctions so was obviously wanting to save on postage.

Won one of these, but still did not pay, but instead bid on three of my forthcoming auctions.

Won them all and still did not pay but bid again, and won

After a month I was just about to ask him to pay, when he did.

Guess what, he started this procedure all over again, with payment after a month.

In all this time absolutely no communication from him, but I am still a happy bunny as I have a regular customer I would not have had if I had leaped straight in with a case after 4 days.

Still - pity we can't give DSR stars to buyers for communication. :D
