You could try office live basics its free. They were giving out free .co.uk addresses. I'm not sure if this is still the case

You need to buy a domain name. Lycos.co.uk do them for 4.98 for 2 years. You will then need to get it hosted. I use 3ix.com at 59p a month. Try 1&1 internet. they are good for both

They use credit card details to confirm your identity and to stop people signing up multiple times - I was never charged

If, like most ISPs, yours gives free webspace (hosting) then all you need is A domain name which is quite cheap (sometimes free) for .co.uk domains.

You can then host your site for free at the ISP server (or maybe keep it where it is now) and make the domain automatically point to your webspace.

If you redirect from your Domain to some of your ISP's free webspace, it will work but won't get the best Google ranking. On the other hand if you connect your Domain via the DNS management to the unique IP number of your web space your pages become 'part' of the domain getting best search engine results.

Does anyone know if you can connect the free office live basics web space to a domain they already own via the domain DNS management panel?

Because I am thinking of moving our B&B in China web pages from NTL to some proper web space but we already own the domain.

[ Edit ] Have had a look and there is a UK version, 500 MB gratis web space with 10 GB data transfer /year free hosting space and you CAN link across from own Domain using DNS. Alternatively get a free Domain.

The 10 GB data transfer limit is a little borderline: I estimate about 4 GB per annum already to our China travel site (a ballpark is 10 page loads per MB). If we max out then it's new $$$s to MS to up the cap!

    see http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/officelive/FX101925601033.aspx

If anyone takes up this offer do report back the experience!

Thank you but i am so lost went to mirco live but it only let me build my own page ..would not host..
dns management , how do i get my page to them sorry but my ip number and part of my domain is going over my head ..
  • Buy a domain name from http://www.123-reg.co.uk/

Buy some web space (web hosting) from http://www.dataflame.co.uk/

Then use an FTP tool such as WS_FTP to upload your webpages (unless Dreamweaver has a built in FTP tool)

    http://www.ipswitch.com/products/ws_ftp/index.asp

    Good luck!

Yes forgot to mention M$ offer does not allow the uploading of existing sites - forget it!

No need to pay for an ftp program. The Filezilla one at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/FTP-Clients/FileZilla.shtml will do it all for free.
