correct about IE9 and XP, they don't go. Browsers stuttering may be down to any add-ons rather than the browsers themselves, check what's running in them....having said that, flashplayer's been a complete PITA recently, I had to reload it again yesterday

Oh heck - now I've blown it, no icons or task bar or start button - how do I fix this? DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Hit [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del], select New Task, type explorer.exe and press [Enter].0

Ok I have them back, but the Eggtimer is constanty on, with Cntrl-Alt-Del got the Task Manager up, only processess running are the System Idle Time and Spoolv.exe - no HDD light showing usage.
The only other thing I notice is the small Blue Bar at the side of the start button (quick launch I think) is blank.
Arrow on the top of the screen, and Eggtimer when I take to the Start line.
Thanks

On the Browser, this is a 70+ year old, he couldn't handle the change to Chrome so have put him back to IE. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club

What were you doing immediately prior to everything vanishing?
Tried rebooting?How do I add a signature?0 -
Several times. Too much at once, and I do know better:o
Even Shutdown via the Task manager does not work, have to do a hard switch off.
Restored it to a day or two ago, but that hasn't done it.
Can get in ok in Safe Mode, but obviously need to get the real mode working.
