Carphone Warehouse Upgrades

I'm hoping to get some info on upgrading with Carphone Warehouse. I have a contract with O2 with an upgrade date of 15th June. I took out this contract directly with O2 but have seen that carphone warehouse do upgrades; their website says any contract...how does this work? I've seen a phone I like on their website, which it says is available on O2 although it's not available direct through O2 in that colour.

I know I could get all this info by going into the store but I figured they'll just tell me what I want to hear and try and sell me more than I need! Besides, I know you're all such a knowledgeable bunch around here :-)

It works as normal. There's an upgrade section on the site you can use. If the phone you're after is available through the site on the O2 network then there's no issue!

If you have issues with the phone CPW will help you out and send it off for repair if they need to (and if it's within the first year). Any network issues or bill issues will still be O2's with O2 as normal.

The phone will be unlocked too :-)

Great, thank you. I was just thinking it might be one of those situations where they call them 'upgrades' but really it's just a whole new contract.

In fact you can usually do better by buying a new contract as a new customer, then porting/transferring the old number to the new contract.

Upgrade deals are generally very close to new deals price wise these days, specially if you don't spend loads of money going over your limits. The upgrade prices can be better than new prices sometimes.

It does go through as a normal upgrade though. Same number etc.

I know you've already said that O2 don't sell the phone but if they did CPW could price match it too.

Thanks for all the info. I did think about a new contract but when I had a look it would actually work out more expensive for me...I'm on one of the cheapest contracts and they don't even do it anymore for new customers. The phone I want would be free either way. Now I've just got to try and be patient until 15th June :-)
