If people get off on it then so be it, its they're choice, the site is perfectly fine and not going to the dogs but im not denying there are those who do go a bit OTT.

I am not saying its worse than any other forum not bya long way, every board has them. I have just noticed this "holier than thou" attitude becoming more the norm and from what I have seen people come here solely to do this, its astonishing to me. Some poeple come here to get some help for small issues some come for more serious ones, Oh well I guess I will grin and bear it :D.

This site does not encourage, condone people going into debt, therefore whoever comes on asking for money advice, are usually given advice on how to avoid these payday loan rip-off merchants, a lot of people here have been here, done that and are passionate about making sure others do not make the same mistakes. Bare with us!!

    AMD

Totally agree that payday loans should be avoided at all costs, TBH I am against large credit limits and high APR CCs but thats a different subject. There is pasionate and then there is tellign an 19yo girl she will end up bankrupt without knowing her true circumstances would you not agree?

I completly understand that people wish to warn me about not getting payday loans, however i do feel that there is a difference between being helpful and being condescending.

Makes me laugh that it can be judged from such little information, the reasons behind the problem, or even why i took the loan in he first place. To add to that wonga were wrong in this case, they have admitted that themselves.

To anyone coming onto this thread with the same problem, ring wonga on 0207 138 8330, they can be very co-operative if your polite but firm with them. Email there customer service for extra measures, and ill post later if i get my refund in 24hrs like they said.

There were some helpful comments also so a genuine thanks for that :):)

    Oh and..
Guess the best advice would be to point the OP to the Bankruptcy board ... That's where she is heading if she carries on in this way ...

No i wont be bankrupt. Carries on this way? What with £25 debt?
I work and im a full time student, and this is the first time iv ever had debt. So i'll give those directions a miss. :)

Jessiicahh, I guessed you were a law student, keep up with the studies you will soon be earning loads and PDLs will be a thing of the past.

A few years ago my rent went up from £525 to £550. I called the bank and amended my standing order but they took both the old and new amount of rent out of my account on the same day. I had this horrible sick feeling...I've got no money, I can't pay bills, I can't buy food etc. The bank wouldn't admit to making a mistake and wouldn't refund the money. I had to go to my landlady, who drove us to her bank and she withdrew the money out over the counter. I understand how you feel especially since they have taken in excess of what you owe them!

    Fingers crossed.

Have you noticed it's a small group of posters that give each other thanks.

    Did no-one read the op??

She paid the first installment of the agreed payment plan, £200. Wonga took it twice and she is having trouble getting a refund.

A lot of stress and bother would be avoided if people just read things properly, instead of presuming that anyone taking out a PDL must be trying to run away from the consequences.

Wonga will agree to any payment plan, however they will raid any available funds from your account as well.
You should close down the direct debit and set up a standing order as they can not be changed by the other party.

Not convinced it's worth the effort but here goes...

The OP has broken the Loan Contract, which clearly stated when and how much was to be repaid, the OP failed to adhere to it.

The OP does not have a new contract, simply an Arangement to Pay(AP).
There is no new contract for the OP to harp on about, Wonga are under no obligation to abide by the AP. This is nothing more than a goodwill gesture by Wonga to protect their reputation.

Not all PDL companies bother reprting to Credit Agencies, in this case, if Wongo do, the OP can expect to be excluded from all mainstream lending for the next 6 years. Anyone hazard a guess why?
It's because an Arrangement to Pay will be reflected on the Credit Files due to breaking the loan contract.

The OP has made no comment about Wonga agreeing to freeze Interest on this defaulted account. They may well freeze the Interest, great news for the OP, but many of them won't. The OP's claim to only owe a few quid may be somewhat wide of the truth.

19yrs old, still effectively at school and already disappeared into financial problems, the worse thing is beligerantly not understanding the position.

The best news for the OP is that Wonga seem to be the best of a bad bunch, if it had been toothfairy, we would have a whole lot of other complaints to argue about.

Oh come on. Shes a student...I know plenty students who racked up thousands in debt in overdraft fees, student loans and graduate loans in addition to the government loans.

Yes they were stupid... and no it wasnt as bad as a payday loan but come on... alot of students permanently live in there 1000 pound overdraft or whatever it is.

I remember one lad being paid simply to make his -1000 balance go to -600 every month.

Where is he now? Headteacher.... nice car etc... sure he not headed to bankruptcy.

Students are foolish a bit but thats their mistake to make.... and not really a good target for 'wisdom lessons'... because most of them will get a graddy job and then pay off all debts within year or two (with the exception of goverment loan which is 1.5% interest).

But the payday loan was the worst choice for a loan for a student.. there are many bank accounts (HSBC comes to mind) that offeres interest free Overdrafts for period of study (plus 1 year after graduating i believe)..

I only disagree with the suggestion most Students clear their debts within a year or two, I'm not sure I have even heard of anyone clearing it that quickly, let alone know anyone.

These posts have a wider audience than the single poster, to suggest there are no consequences be failing to repay and coming to an arrangement is wholly wrong, and should be clarified.
The OP may get away with it, others will not if they mistakenly think otherwise after reading this thread.
