Using XP printers with Windows 7

Windows XP support is ending in less than 2 years so I want to start planning for upgrading to Win 7 (or 8). Unfortunately Win 7 drivers are unavailable for my scanner and 2 printers. Will this mean a round trip to the dump and back via PC World, or is there any possibility of using them with a virtual XP machine etc?
Can anyone here advise me please?

Are these HP, they are a company who have decided that they do not want anyone to buy their products by refusing to release working software for Windows 7 for their very expensive laser printers.
They are so greedy they think you will buy a new one, but why would you buy something that is obsolete ever time software changes.

Just plug 'em in and see what happens. You never know - they might just work.

I have a Canon scanner, Canon laser and Epson inkjet. I also have a digiTV card but I know there is no hope of saving that.

I also would like to use virtual XP to run software which is not compatible with Win 7, such as Family Tree Maker 2006.

Fred, I was using a 6-year old Epson printer on XP and assumed that it would not work on a new laptop with W7, but I connected it to see for myself, and after a download it is fine!

The R800 driver should be included with Windows 7

Why do you think you need to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8? XP will still work! There are many organisations still running Windows 2000. The older an operating system gets, the less likely are naughty people to write viruses for it.

The ones already out there still breed like bunnies though. That said if a system isn't connected to the 'net the chances of infection decrease dramatically.

All it takes is an axe to the UTP.

support ending doesn't stop anything working, you just won't get tons of debateable value updates bloating up the machine.
