Using XP printers with Windows 7

Why do you think you need to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8? XP will still work! There are many organisations still running Windows 2000. The older an operating system gets, the less likely are naughty people to write viruses for it.
Microsoft regularly send me fixes to prevent virus attacks, so I assumed that without these I would become increasingly vulnerable. Most viruses I have checked seem to attack several versions of Windows. Not sure I would feel very safe, but you may be right.0 -
It is not a good idea to wait until the last minute to upgrade: I needed experience of W7 for work as my clients have it.
Everything seems faster and better now.
I read something about Digitally Signed Drivers that made me think that my old Epson All-in-one wouldn't work, so it was a pleasant surprise when it did.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

One thing to try if you ever had a printer/scanner that doesn't have specific drivers for Windows 7/8 is to try any drivers released for Vista, and failing that from memory Windows 2k.
Also for printers, often there is a generic driver that will work but without all the bells and whistles included in the OS these days0 -
For the Canon and the Epson it will not be a problem to find Windows 7 drivers.
There may not be be specific drivers for the other equipment, though.
Just do as others suggest, maybe try existing drivers. Are these HP, they are a company who have decided that they do not want anyone to buy their products by refusing to release working software for Windows 7 for their very expensive laser printers.
They are so greedy they think you will buy a new one, but why would you buy something that is obsolete ever time software changes.
It's true that HP don't have Windows 7 drivers for older printers,
but it isn't really a problem as thankfully Microsoft have issued printer drivers in their updates.
So when you plug it in, it may just find it, or install it manually using the 'Add printer' 'Windows Update' button
but it is possible to check online to see if your printer is listed.
Did you have a particular printer driver you were looking for?
