Car hire in Spain

I'm thinking of hiring a car at Valencia airport in August. Does anyone have:
1. any general advice on car hire in Spain, or
2. any specific experience of hiring at Valencia airport?
Any good/bad experiences, advice on who to go for/who to avoid, etc etc, gratefully accepted!

I always use Carjet.co.uk (broker) and have never had any problems with them. The cars are always fairly new and we quite often get offered an upgrade for free. Another bonus is that you can add 3 extra drivers for no cost and can change arrangements or suppliers if necessary with no charge. My one gripe is that you have to pay for a full tank of petrol and return it empty.

One thing to watch is the accessories that should be carried in the vehicle eg Hi-Vis jackets, triangles etc which are not provided by the hire company but that you, as the driver, are responsible for having. When I've queried this with the hire companies they just say 'if you get a fine bring it to us and we'll pay it' Fortunately I've never yet been in that situation but do take 2 jackets with us in the front pockets of the suitcase so they're easily accessible! My thinking is that if those are on display (over the seats just like proper spaniards!) then we've less chance of being stopped for anything else! ;)

I use premiercarjet nearly all the time. They to are brokers and only use reputable car hire companies. I have never had any problems with them and am about to use them again for a hire car in Malaga.
Please see the attched link: http://www.premiercarjet.com/

We always use carjet in Spain; there's no insurance excess and they are always good value and very new cars.

Carjet.com and PremierCarjet.com are the same company. :)

Interesting article, but not 100% accurate.
Most companies claim to offer “fully inclusive” or “drive-away” prices. Don’t believe a word of it.
Carjet DO offer fully inclusive insurance; it really is NIL excess. They don't attempt to sell you any extra insurance either because it simply isn't required.

Regrettably carjet are now falling in line with some other companies and operating the "full to empty" scam, which means having to pay for a full tank whether you need it or not, and the almost impossible challenge of returning the car with an empty tank.

I'm an expert at returning with empty tanks

Listening to my wife insisting that I stop to re-fuel just because the fuel light is on & its 30k to the airport  usually means I let them get away with a gallon or so - she has no sense of adventure these days :D
