Egg charged Payment cover without permission?

This is exactly what I was worried about. I have taken the Guys name (Richard) and hope that I will not have to follow it up.

I am amazed that they get away with it, maybe watchdog should get involved....

Did you transfer a balance online? This is probably where it came from if you did not have the telephone call. It is not a nice practice but it does come down to reading what you are signing up for even if that is hidden below the online acceptance button (which will often mean scrolling to the bottom of the page as it is not visible unless you have a huge screen)

I have nearly fallen for this a number of times when going through Egg website - given the ease with which you can balance transfer thousands, it only takes a minute, you can zip through the screens and miss changing the payment protection back to No. More haste, less speed ... ;-).
