Dear all
my employer rented a car for me to get back from a London airport. Upon arrival the rental company found a nail in the tyre. They sent an invoice addressed to teh company naming myself as teh driver, which I have eventually been forwarded.

The company does have a ttavel insurance for it's employees away on buisiness.

Is it definately myself who should be paying thiss or should my employer (or their insurance)?

The old nail in the tyre trick, as old and as long as the hills, they have a spare tyre and wheel with a nail in.
As old as the hills.
Ask for some pictures of this damage and try to find someone else who is in the same scam and catch them at it.

No no no the nail in the tyre was deffo there as I saw it too when we went round the car after returning. Whether it was there beforehand is impossible to tell.

In that case you will need to read the contract and if you were in the service of your employer, they are responsible for any invoices occurred as they are the principle contract holder.
Where about in the tyre was the nail,If you do end up paying, the law states you are entitled to the tyre, they wont like that.

sort of in the middle really it was absolutley there I have no interest in disputing that fact, for me it is more about whether I personally or my employer should pay up.

That seems right I spoke to the rental company and they are invoicing the eomployer not mee and say that who pays it is an internal matter for them

What have your company said ?

Have they forwarded it to you for your information or with an expectation that you will pay.

For me I would very clearly be expecting my employer to pay but I don't think there's any precedent that the employer MUST pay for an employees expenses

And where is the old tyre, with this nail in ?
I would have thought that for them to bring a legitimate claim they will have to produce this tyre at some point and allow expert examination to establish it is the tyre in question and it was not repairable.
The tyre manufacturers state a correctly repaired puncture should last the life of the tyre, it a selling point.
No tyre = no bill
Stand your ground.

They have forwarded it to me without any additional information, but apparently somebody in finance has told the rental company that they couldn't deal with it and needed to pass it on to somebody in my department. The message I got is as follows:

Dear XXX,

Please find attached a copy invoice regarding a vehicle rental. I have forwarded this onto you as the invoice quotes yourself as the acquirer.

Please make the necessary arrangements in order to arrange payment of this invoice...

Kind Regards,
YYY

The invoice is addressed as follows:
Hire company address
employer addres

and then mentions me as the driver
