Just phoned Nokia (thanks for the advice) and they have said they would have a look at it and give a second opinion for free. Daughter isn't with me at the mo but pretty sure she said they want £50 for the repair which given the value of the phone doesn't seem too bad but the fact that she'd only been using it for 3 weeks makes me think it's unreasonable for them to charge her. That and the fact that she says she hasn't jammed the charger into it as they are stating!!

Good luck. Please don't forget to keep the thread updated when you get Nokia's diagnosis.

If they find something different and admit in writing to either a design or manufacturing fault or something else, be sure to wave it under CPW's nose.

Must have been a flaw in the phone then. Trying to put the buck at the Geek Squad agent is a little lame don't you think?

If it is faulty as it is under 28 days you'll get a replacement IF it is deemed to be a fault with the device. If you daughter has broken it then you'll have to pay.Of course it is always the fault of the people in the shop and we never damage anything do we.

nsabournemouth, thanks for your input, slightly harsh I feel but maybe I'm just being sensitive! Could I just state for the record that I was in no way "trying to put the buck at the Geek Squad agent" I was just thinking they might have noticed a fault like that when they tested it and Grumbler quickly put me straight on that front. My apologies if it came across that I was trying to blame them for anything. I also need to say that if I thought my daughter had done the damage I would have just told her "£50 is not a bad price for a repair so pay it and be more careful in future!!" but the fact is that my daughter is 26 years old and has been using mobile phones very successfully for the last 10 years and is more than capable of putting a small round charger into a small round charging socket without needing to jam it in and damage it. And finally, I never at any point stated that it was the fault of any of the people in the shop and the only issue I have with 1 person in the shop is the way they rather arrogantly believe that what they say goes and, whether you like it or not, there is nothing you can do about it.

I didn't think that you tried to blame the Geek Squad guy for any damage either. What I read was that when you took the handset in, the Geek Squad guy just might just have detected whether or not there appeared to be any damage to the charger slot.

On nsabournemouth's point about automatic replacement if a fault is found within the 1st 28 days, I think he may be wrong or, if not, then there are a heck of a lot of people on this forum who have had to accept repairs and a lot of contributors who point out that the legislation allows for the vendor to choose what route to take (repair or replacement).

I wish he was correct, though.

Vodafone sent my Nokia to an authorized repair centre (Unipart?) who are contracted with Nokia. I have had the phone for 1 year, the warranty is for two years. The display screen has gone white and can't see anything on screen. Repair centre engineer claims customer damage (apparently must have sat on it) and will only fix it if i pay as Nokia says Warranty is therefore voided. I did not sit on phone nor did I damage it. How does one appeal? Any suggestions are appreciated. It seems that Nokia does not want to honour their warranties.

Had to do just that last week with a phone I got. Faulty in the first week, took it back and walked away with a new one.

This doesn't prove that your earlier statement was correct:
...If it is faulty as it is under 28 days you'll get a replacement IF it is deemed to be a fault with the device. ..
The only way to prove it is to quote some law or some CPW's internal policy.
