hi all
i've just moved into my own place and its the 1st time i've ever had the responsibility of the bill.
not yet received my tariff details but scottish power said they put me on economy 7 , electric only,

i've looked online but i havn't a clue?
i was wondering if anyone had a rough guide of the cost i've incurred so far-ish so i know what sort of money i'm paying out to budget accordingly even if quoted standard tariff worst case scenario.

reading 2 days ago was 50838 and now at 50864 (26 units) which i have used most appliances and heating for a couple of hours each night and hot water tank from scratch

thanks

If you are on "Economy 7" the meter should have 2 readings or a button to press to cycle through the readings.

Do you actually have night storage heaters? I not you should probably not be on an E7 tariff, as you will be paying a premium rate for all your consumption outside the E7 hours.
Alarm bells ring because you said you had put the heating on for 'a couple of hours at night'-that is not how storage heaters work.
Remember that SP do not have a clue about how your house is wired or heated-their responsibility ends at the meter. It's up to you to specify the required tariff.

Scottish Power is one of the best tariffs for E7 on any night usage percentage. You only need to use 5% at night in most regions to be better off than going onto a standard tariff so be careful requesting a standad meter.

    What is your night usage?

sorry for a delay in replying,
i don't have storage heaters, they are just normal electric panel heaters, used them a little, used washer early AM when i get up,
think the water tank heater comes on for a couple of hours through the night.
I'm still yet to receive my welcome pack from SP so still not sure what tariff I'm on, pretty sure the lady last Tuesday said eco7 but not 100% sure.
I've just read my meter again (not always possible as the door gets locked at times) and it now stands at 50940,
so Ive used 102 units in a week. still cant work out how much that would be on a standard tariff?

102 units on a Standard tariff is about £12, plus the standing charge.
If you have no storage heaters then it's unlikely that E7 is right for you unless you use around 20% or more on night rate.
You say you've used 102 units a week, but how many on each rate-that is what matters with E7.
It's up to you to pick the tariff, not E7. if you have an E7 meter then they will otherwise default you to an E7 tariff.

to be honest, i havn't a clue what tariff would be best.
i live alone mon-fri and out most of the day,
i think my hot water tank heats through the night for a few hours, and put washer on when needed about 6am.
A workmate who lives just around the corner in a very similar apartment says he pays £35 p/m for his, and 2 live there!
not sure if he's not paying enough though, don't want to be hit with a big bill later on

How about telling us what your annual consumption is on each rate as requested then? We can't guess what your consumption is on each rate, and without that, no one can say if E7 is suitable or not.
You said you used 102 kWh. but on which rate?
What your workmate pays is really of no relevance whatsoever.

    i don't know?
I've only been in the apartment just over a week, and that I've used 102 in the 1st 7 days at what ever rate I'm on, which I'm also not sure yet, as i said, I'm still waiting for my paperwork from S.P to come through.
i used my workmate as a guide as they have the same set up/lay out as me.

OK, so where did you get the usage of 102kWh from? If you are on E7, you have a dual rate meter, so tell us the usage on each rate.
Is 102kWh the combined usage, or from one register only? If one, tell us the usage for the other, and which is which (cheap rate and peak rate).
