I didn't have any proof what i have paid didn't start paying through the bank till 13th December but my Childminder gave me all her accounts stating how much i have paid since she started in April 2011 and also a letter stating that she goes there for 12 hours a week i'm a bit worried about the bank statement part as i owe my ex money for things i have bought my daughter and i think they may query that

As what you owe your ex will be an outgoing - I doubt they would be interested. If your ex was putting money in your bank - incoming - then any such incomings "may" be queried.

Hi, I sent all of my stuff back to them on tuesday. I was slightly worried as I had periods where i couldn't account for childcare on my bank statements, but i pay every single week, so don't know or remember what happened there. Also, my ex got a huge redundancy pay out last year and gave me 3k for the kids-he's massively underpaid child maintenance for years, so it was towards this. I only sent an explanation for a bank loan in my account(to consolidate credit cards debts),with original paperwork. If they query the 3k, I can provide proof of where it came from. I just feel very anxious as i never heard of these checks before. I will let you know when i hear anything :)

dont quote me on this but i think they are more intested in making sure you you do actually have a child who does have childcare, theres many cases when a family member looks after them and they claim or even made up children.

When I was a registered childminder I was advised not to give my registration number out and instead to get the parents to give me the form so I could fill that bit in and post it off. Apparantly, one childminder was investigated because 67 families were claiming that she was their childminder!

So I think its definitely true about some people making up children.

I was investigated about 8 years ago. I just sent all the information off to them that I had, including an apology for the odd missing bank statement etc, and everything was fine.

I was eventually told that they suspected I was fraudulently claiming as a single parent because my self employed ex husband had never changed the address with HMRC for his National Insurance Contributions.

Massively hacked of with ex, but quite pleased to confirm tax credits do check for fraud in the system.

    Hi,
Just to put your mind at rest. Yes, they do randomly check claims, I had this last year, (Christmas time) Like you I was worried.
I just sent the relevant doc's required, mine was contract, receipts and childminders reg number. I didn't have all receipts but most, for the time required. Received a letter about a week later to say all was good and no need to amend my award. However, all we get is childcare, no ctc or wtc.
    Hope this helps
