Hi, some advice needed from those of you who have been on Cilatrapram (sp?). I've been on 20mgs for 6 years now. For three months I was down to 10mg every 3rd day and this past month 10gm a day. I have no problems with the anxiety that it was prescribed for, but I'm exhausted all the time. I wake tired and am having to have a couple of hours sleep in the day. Is this normal?!

hi i have not taken the same as you but something very similar and when trying to come off had the same withdrawalls
have you spoken with your doctor? i think this is the first thing you should do if you have not, i changed my diet and took vitamins but it is not the answer for all
good luck0 -
I've taken it for anxiety (varying the dose from 60 to 20mg for 6 years - thankfully came off it about 2 years ago now) I used to feel tired when I was taking it, I do remember coming of it was very difficult in terms of increased tiredness, stress and anxiety, so I did it very slowly like you seem to be doing
If it doesn't get better soon it might be worth a trip to your GP to see if there's any other reason you might be feeling tired - mild aneamia for example would be a possibility and would be easily treated0 -
I had an awful time coming off it so I would recommend doing it as slowly as you need to. I started feeling tired etc but then I became really dizzy and disorientated. The doctor kept pushing me to reduce further but I felt ill for so long with it that I eventually decided to just go 'cold turkey' as I couldn't cope with feeling ill.
I ended up in bed for two weeks as I literally couldn't stand without the room spinning and feeling really sick.
Apparently they now do citalopram in liquid form too though so you can reduce by even smaller quantities than tablets will allow.
Keep discussing with your GP how you are feeling. Mine knew how bad I suffered trying to get off it, but then decided to try and prescribe it me again a few years later. I politely declined!0 -
I hated citalapram!! It made me feel even more tired than I already was! I told my dr that it made me feel worse and he changed me onto something else which I can no longer remember the name of. Go back to your gp and let them know how your feeling.0

Can't remember what mg l'm on but yes it makes me feel tired too. I hate it but otherwise l feel able to cope with life so it's catch 22 for me.

Reading that reminded me that when I came off it I also used to complain about not quite feeling in my body IYSWIM
I think citalopram is the cheapest of the cheap generic treatment for anxiety - since taking it I've also found there are alternative medications which suit me better, giving better results and fewer side effects and these alongside talking therapies worked a treat for me0 -
when i stopped taking it, i got dizzy all the time (to the point of almost falling over) and extremely tired. Unfortunately I just had to suffer for a few weeks until it was out of my system.0

I've only been taking 20mg a day for the last 6 weeks and although anxiety wise I'm feeling much better, I'm unbelievably tired all the time:( I feel like I could really do with a nap several times a day, I did go from taking it in the morning to taking it in the evening to see if that would help, but don't think it's made much of a difference! I'm due to go back to the doc in a couple of weeks, so will mention it then.
Sorry no help, but its reassuring that other people feel the same on it, was beginning to worry there was something else seriously wrong.0 -
I was on Citalopram a few years ago, I can't remember the dose but I couldn't keep my eyes open on it. When I told the doc he reduced the dose and that helped lots. Coming off of it was not fun, but I am happy I did. Looking back when I was on it everything was a bit of a blur.0
