It's been a very long time since I've had the need to clone a hard drive. I used to use Powerquest Drive Copy, but the version I have doesn't support Windows 7, and I'm loathe to upgrade / purchase the latest version as Powerquest is now part of Symantec
So, what do you guys use recommend? The free-er the bett-er.

Clonezilla. It is brilliant.
Available as a live CD/USB so is OS independent. Being GPL it is also as free as they come.
There are dozens of others too....

Another happy Clonezilla user here.
Only problem I've had is that it has tripped up on an uncommon filesystem (JFS) with me in the past, but few users are likely to find that a problem (and the bug has probably been fixed by now anyway).0 -
I've used Driveimage XML from Runtime Software before ... http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm ..
Worked well enough , took a few hours though as I recall!0 -

I've used Windows 7's disk imaging function many times. It has always worked reliably.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

both WD and seagate/maxtor (did) give away a free version of acronis for use with their drives, if you don't like the many 3rd party apps!!
