Advice on white gloss paint - is the water based paint any good?

i am in the process of switching to w/b products for my customers - i've mainly used dulux ecosure gloss or the diamond satinwood , or bedec multi surface paint - i think the benefits outweigh the negatives - the w/b doesn't cover quite as well as solvent stuff and isn't quite as tough , but it will stay white , quicker to apply , dries quicker and doesn't smell .
preparation is king , make sure any surfaces have a really good sand down and a wash with sugar soap ,0 -
I use the water borne paint in my HVLP sprayer, it makes getting a perfect finish on doors etc really easy as you can thin down the first coat with water and then cleaning the kit out simply involves filling the spray gun with water and blowing it through once. It wouldnt be time/cost effective to do this with oil based paints. Definitely gets the thumbs up from me.
As NickJ says, preparation is everything, on new timber you need to use a diluted coatfirst to allow the grain to rise, sand it down and then paint for a hard wearing long lasting finish. Covering old oil based paint I have hound that I have needed to sand down and prime before painting to get the best results as it can be prone to chipping if not properly bonded to the timber/primerSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0
