Just don't go back with the same vehicle registration - it may not be enforceable here, but they will know (when issuing another parking or police ticket) whether you paid the previous one, leading to possible increased difficulty later.
The officer who issues the ticket does not know if any other tickets have gone unpaid against the vehicle.

There is no issue. Don't pay the ticket and nothing will happen.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

a bit late to this topic but......I lived in France for two years. I got around 20-25 tickets. I never paid them. I asked a French policeman about this, who said not to worry, they wouldn't chase me for it. This was about ten years ago, and I still haven't heard a thing. However, I did get worried entering/leaving France on the ferry. Same for the speed cameras on the peripherique around Paris.
  • I just got a very similar ticket in Le Touquet.
Reading this thread put my mind at rest.
    Thank you one and all......

probably the wait-and-see answer is sensible, however as far as I remember the regulations have changed recently (2010/11) and e.g. tickets you get here will now be enforced say for instance in Germany... so best chk to be on the safe side..

I don't believe there is any data sharing deals with the dvla and their equivalents outside the UK, what normally happens is that these are passed onto debt collectors like these http://www.epcplc.com/ who are just debt collectors who can be totally ignored. Just like they are here for private parking
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?
  • The DVLA do not hold non-UK vehicle details and UK vehicles are not even acknowleged when abroad, definitely not anywhere in Europe.

If the French authorities don't like it, let them try for an indictment at the ICC in the Hague! :)
  • Chamber 1: Laurent Gbagbo, former Ivorian president, on charges for resisting regime change favoured in the west.

Chamber 2: a UK driver who ignored a penalty issued by the French Fifth Republic
