My DD has scoliosis and is now 24. Would a chiropracter help?
I don't know. The normal treatment is spinal surgery, or (in the case of younger sufferers) the wearing of a back brace.

I see a chiropractor every 3 months to 'tweak' my back after I did myself an injury overdoing it in the gym a decade or so back. After ignoring the pain for nearly 2 years (I thought I'd just pulled a muscle or something) I decided I had to go as it was getting to the point where I was getting a 'trapped nerve' in my neck which was so bad I couldn't turn my head to the left without it being excrutiatingly painful, and this was happening on a more and more regular basis, at one point it would happen every few weeks and I was starting to get a similar problem with 'trapped nerves' towards the bottom of my back as well.

I'm so glad I went in the end as it turned out that I'd done a bit more than pull a muscle! The chiropractor told me that part of my spine wasn't 'seated properly' and he had to put it back, but because I'd left it so long to get it checked out he said it'd be a chronic condition. Although I still have minor niggles every so often it's nowhere near the level of problems I was having with it initially. My chiropractor tells me it'll be something I'll have to keep up for the rest of my life but 4 visits a year to keep me relatively pain free seems worth it!

Op is this your child who you said was talented at sports?

If so, depending on the sport, I suggest you also speak to the coach. With my daughter's particular event, she had some issues with her technique that exacerbated the back issue, and needed to be corrected (gently!) before the chiropractor's work could be properly put to use.

If it's athletics, PM me, as I am a high level coach myself, and have good knowledge of these type of injuries.

Cherish those you have in your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.

No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & never give up.

Surgery was suggested when she was a teen and she declined .
  • I've been seeing a chiropractor for around 4-5 weeks now. I tried to get out of bed one morning and was screaming with the pain in my back and down my leg. He has worked wonders :T I never realised that for a few years I've put up with the niggles and ignored them which was a bad decision :( It's been a lesson learned for me and I will be continuing to go every month to get my back adjusted. If your daughter needs to go back regularly ask about a care plan. I did and for every 5 sessions I go for I get one free :D
Never look down on anyone unless you are bending to help them up.....

I suppose if she's in any pain then the first port of call would be the consultant who previously assessed her - they would be able to advise on whether chiropractors, physiotherapists etc can help. I had surgery when I was 16, and I still get aches and pains now, but nothing a few nurofen can't sort out.

    Go to a real doctor!

Chiropractors are not usually medical doctors

All a real doctor did for me was chuck some anti-inflammatories at me when the spasm was so bad I could hardly walk. I respected him greatly as he helped me deal with depression, but he wasn't able to sort my back out, he just treated the sudden acute symptoms rather than the chronic issues underlying it.
