Combi boiler setting

Now we've got a water meter should we have the water setting on comfort. TIA:)

What setting is that then? On what? The hot water or the heating? The hot water should be set at the lowest temperature you find useful and the heating hardly uses any water so does not matter.

Hot water. Something to do with the water always being kept pre heated. Know it will cost more in gas but the we have to run off what seems like a load of water upstairs before it gets hot from the taps. Haven't measure how much but for the kitchen sink it's two litres. Vaguely remember plumber saying not to use it as we didn't have meter but we do now. Is it the exchangers keeping it warm:o There's an economy or comfort setting just for the water in addition to setting the temp.

Thank you. The cost of the gas in keeping the water pre heated will outweigh the extra cost of 2 litres per use of water per time (which costs half a penny). You should be saving the 2 litres of cold water in a jug then transfer it to a larger bucket then put it into a water butt outside and use it in the garden. If you don't use much water in the garden then you should find other uses for the 2 litres of water such as flushing the toilet if you keep a bucket in the bathroom.

Thank you:) That's more or less what I thought but wanted to double check. Have saved the water from the kitchen tap but for upstairs I've not found a container yet that will go under the tap and hold a lot. Don't think we've ever really wasted water but this has made us realise that we can cut back our use without going OTT if that makes sense.

Some combi's have a small internal tank which can be kept full of hot water. This enables hot water to reach the tap quickly; however you still have to 'run off' the water in the pipes and this obviously depends on the length of the pipe run.

One disadvantage of heating this tank is that the boiler can fire up in the middle of the night for a minute or two to keep this water up to temperature; the noise can be disconcerting.
