hold on, i didnt say raise it in the public space, i was asking because if the manager is never alone in a small space with the staff, then its unlikely that the story would wash (no pun intended), of course you would talk in private

I understood what you meant in your other post.;)

Is it BO or a fishy smell? There is a medical condition which can make people smell dreadfully of fish, the name escapes me right now though.

As the manager the buck stops with you, you need to address the situation and deal with it.

Agree with Cleggie. The person may in fact know, and not be able to do anything more.

I now use a zinc citrate product (an anti-bacteria handwash), and after my bath, when I scrub with a body brush and/or exfoliating gloves, I use this product and allow it work for some seconds. Wash it off and then use a deodorant which costs over £5. Always use cotton clothes and daily morning bath and in the evening before I go out. I've been almost suicidal with this.

I would just wish you to tread very carefully, whatever you say will be remembered though their life. I do understand you have to do something, and I hope it is just a lack of hygiene. Most people are unaware that they smell, but some people are well aware of it having had years of snide comments and subtle hints.

Onething I wouldnt say is that you have had complaints, dont involve anyone else. Say you have noticed yourself that she may have personal hygiene problems, and as another poster says, leave it till the end of the day, just ask them to stay behind for a few minutes.

Be gentle, cos there may be tears.

Isnt it strange though, that not too many years ago, people had a bath at the most once a week, (i know, i know, whether we needed one or not lol) If I miss a day without a shower I feel as if I'm honking, If I went a week without a shower I KNOW Id be honking.

Did we honk 50 years ago or did every one honk the same so no one noticed it........

I haven't read all the replies but I have experience of this as well.

Does the person have to do manual work, or is there an underlying medical condition? Do they have to wear a uniform that you could assist them in ensuring it is washed? Are there showering facilities in your workplace? Are they having issues at home/work? These are all things that you can explore when you speak to them.

Be polite, but don't beat around the bush. The last thing you want is for them to come away not 'getting it'. They will be just as embarrassed as you are. Maybe ask to have a follow up meeting with them in a week or two as well.
