We have had a salesman from Anglian Windows visit last week.
He went into the full sales pitch for 2 hours. Numerous times we asked for just the quote and were told to hold on. Finally, we were given a quote just for 'today'. I asked whether we could come back to them the day afterwards so that we could have time to disucss and were told that the price was for the day only.
I told the salesman that we could not commit today and were asked continually 'why not?'. Finally I asked the salesman to leave to which he refused on numerous occasions. It came to the point where we could not get him off the property which was highly concerning. Both of us were left shaken after the incident and would like to warn others about Anglian windows and their sale techniques.
Salesman was Mr Ali from Anglian Windows. Please take notice of this warning and do not let him onto your property!! We do not want anyone to have to go through the same thing we did.0 -

Anyone else in this position may be interest that the Consumer Protection from Unfair Business Practices which is a law has a specific rule against this type of pressure.
"6. Limited time only
Falsely stating that a product will only be available for a very
limited time, or that it will only be available on particular
terms for a very limited time, in order to elicit an immediate
decision and deprive consumers of sufficient opportunity
or time to make an informed choice"

I'm so glad that there are other people like us!
Anglian are the most unprofessional company I think I have ever come into contact with. Head Office have no control or impact on regional offices. Regional offices are run by people who don't realise how important customers are to the business!
If you're thinking of using Anglian, please don't. I'm close to tears with these guys. After having broken the contract in several places, they are now refusing to accept our cancellation of the contract.
How does our legal system allow this to happen?
Here's the letter I sent them. They are now refusing to accept our cancellation of the contract.
To whom it may concern (customer services)
I am sending this email due to the fact that I have had an unacceptable level of service from Anglian Home Improvements. I have outlined a schedule of events (below) along with some requirements to ensure a satisfactory outcome.
I no longer wish to deal with your regional office as I feel that they are unable to help in this matter.
Throughout 2010 Repeated calls from Anglian chasing potential work
and the beginning
of 2011:
17 March 2011: Agreed to meet with Anglian rep. Agreed to costs and instruction to start asap, paid deposit and was told that someone would be in contact within the next two weeks.
I had to chase several times. Was told that we had been left messages, but I work from home and no one had attempted to call on either the landline or mobile. We were sent a letter saying that we hadn’t responded, I chased again, left a message and was told that I’d be contacted and never was. We then received a second letter. I eventually managed to speak with the surveyor.
w/c 2 May 2011: I called into our local Anglian office to ask whether they could help. I was told ‘sorry, not our department love, we’re just sales. Call head office as this is normally the only way you can get things done’.
6 May 2011: Anglian surveyor came to carry out test on the asbestos and take measurements.
26 & 27 May 2011: Anglian arrived and started to strip the soffits and fascias.
I was then told that they had found two different types of asbestos and that they wouldn’t be able to continue with the work, until the second type had been tested. They collected a sample, packed up and left our property.
When my partner arrived home he was horrified to find that our property had been left open round the soffit and fascia board area giving access to the roof space. We have had problems with the local wildlife and didn’t want them getting into the roof space. I contacted Anglian to arrange for a small team to come back and board up the areas.
We were told that we wouldn’t hear anything for the next one to two weeks due to the bank holiday.
We waited…
22 June 2011: I contacted the project manager whilst he was on holiday (didn’t realise) and he told me that he’d left notes in the office and that I should contact one of his colleagues as he had had no news before leaving for annual leave.
I called the number supplied, thinking it was my regional office and got through to the main number, where I was issued with a reference number (373833). I was told that someone would be in contact within the next two days. I heard nothing…
24 June 2011: I contacted my regional office and the contact name that I had been given returned my call. I was told that there was still no news, but he’d chase. If he didn’t hear anything back, then the project manager would call me with an update on Monday on his return.
27 June 2011: I received a call from our project manager with an update. He had finally heard from the asbestos removal company with a date for work to recommence. He said that he had tried everything he could but the earliest they could manage is the 8 August as they are so busy (unless there was a cancellation).
We had a rather heated discussion and I explained to him that by the 8 August we will have been waiting for about six months and that this was unacceptable. He said that six months was incorrect and that the time spans given are from the date of the survey.
He did offer to send a team round to fix up some temporary guttering to get us through to August.
Even if this was the case, we will still have been waiting for three months! Still unacceptable.
I explained that if nothing was done within the next week, then I would like to cancel my order. He told me that this wouldn’t be possible due to the fact that we had gone past the cooling off period for cancellation.
He also said that he would speak to his senior team and get clarification on the terms of the cancellation and get back to me. I have not yet heard anything more from him.
28 June 2011: I called Anglian’s 0800 number and spoke with an advisor. After explaining the situation once again, she tried to contact the regional office without having any luck.
I explained to her that we were more than happy to keep the items delivered, which have been sitting on our lawn since the end of May, Anglian could keep our deposit and we will walk away. She explained that this would not be possible and that she had no power to either escalate or sanction this and that I would need to write or email customer services. Hence this email.
29 June 2011: A different gentleman from the regional office called to explain that the asbestos would be removed on 4 August.
As a customer I expect and am entitled to a good quality of service from Anglian Home Improvements, which we feel we have not received. Anglian took our deposit on 17 March 2011 on the understanding that work would be started and completed as soon as possible.
The 4/8 August date that we have now been given means that we will have been waiting for at least five months for Anglian to carry out a job that according to other suppliers should take between two and three months.
According to the Supply of Goods and Services act 1982, Anglian are in breech of contract as they have failed to complete the work within a reasonable amount of time.
Any competent surveyor should have seen that the property had been extended. He should then have known to take two samples for testing.
We have also been left with holes in our roof, which we have had to tape over, due to problems with squirrels and bad weather. We have also now had the plastic products sitting on our lawn for a month, killing the grass. Anglian are further more in breech
of contract as they have failed to complete the work with a reasonable amount of care and skills.
In order to resolve this issue, we would like the following. Either:
For all work to be completed by the end of week commencing 18 July 2011 along with suitable compensation for the delay and aggravation caused.
Or
For our deposit to be refunded in full and the exterior of the property fully returned to its original state and the contract cancelled
Or
For Anglian to keep the deposit of £270 already paid, leave us with the goods (plastic items) and for the contract to be cancelled in full.
We do not feel that any of the above is unreasonable.
If we do not get a satisfactory response to this letter by Monday 11 July, we will be contacting our solicitor and pursuing this matter further, until we reach a satisfactory outcome.
I look forward to hearing from you.0 -
Had problems with them to, poor communication had to chase for install date, finally came and removed/replaced abestos guttering, soffits and wooden fascias. Not only did they leave bits of abestos around gardens, didnt even put plastic run offs in under the tiles into the guttering. Emailed them twice, no response, phoned them, lady agreed it wasnt right, said she would call me back that day to let me know when they would come back. Week later no phone call still. If it wasnt for me going up there to look at it, would have never known it wasnt done properly
Disappointing as I had windows done by them and they were great but this time, service has been poor and I cant find an address to write to, complain to head office on the website.
Just phoned number from website, complaints can be posted to

Hi- I wanted a new front door. Called Anglian...just to see.
£3500 down to £2600 with my discount and then £1650 if I signed straight away as they had some other order going in and they could add it to that.
What a complete load of rubbish.
Their sales technique is so old hat and available on the net for all to see. Why dont they just realise that they dont need to go through all this rubbish. Just sell the windows at the proper price.
They would improve their reputation over night.
Suffice to say- they didnt get the job.0 -
Anglian's windows seem to be good but DON'T let them sell you building extensions. The foundations for my porch were laid over an air vent and subsequently there is now damp in the hall.
Anglian do not employ builders only labourers that know nout about building practice. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.0 -
I worked or Anglian for a week a few years ago.
Terrible company, terrible people. Salesmen were all sexist bast*rds (I'm male btw) and were just generally unpleasant to be around. The door to door canvas people were the only decent people as they had come in naively and left about an hour later after realising they had been conned into doing the job.
What made me walk out was when the sales manager told me i need to push the "Oldies" because they will bye anything just to get rid of you. What a scum bag.11K Challenge
